HDTV's successor
High-definition TV may still be far from the norm in many countries, but that isn't stopping engineers at Japan's public broadcaster from pushing ahead with development of Super Hi-Vision, a system they hope will eventually replace HDTV. Last week engineers at NHK's (Nippon Hoso Kyokai) Science and Technical Research Laboratories showed off their most recent work on the technology.
A Super Hi-Vision (SHV) picture is made up of 4,320 horizontal picture lines and 7,680 vertical lines. That's four times the horizontal and vertical resolution of current HDTV or, put another way, a single Super Hi-Vision image is equivalent to 16 tiled HDTV screens. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13...1/article.html I wasn't sure where to post this, but I thought it was worthy of discussion. I wonder how fast this technology will move on? |

Technology moves at a pace that has sod all to do with economics and politics and that means the public probably never has a chance to buy 99.9% of the tech produced in the R&D labs

Of course HDTV is old hat to the Japanese, they've had it commercially (albeit at a cost) since the early 1990's
3d TV next then!

It makes you wonder what will be next. Until recently (well, about ten years ago) I thought CRT TVs were as good as it got!

Can I ask a question (warning: may appear stupid).
Are all HDTV's ready for the digital switchover? |

Are all HDTV's ready for the digital switchover? The HD Ready spec for displays does not specify any sort of tuner so you can by them with an analogue tuner, digital tuner, both or none. Either way you connect up a DTT, Dsat or DCable box and you are in business. |
