I am getting quite dodgy phone calls from a London number. The number is 02070193927. The first call was at 0515 this morning, but I was at work and with my wife and kids in the house they were quite frightened. The second time was also this morning at 0738 as I was waking through the door.

I have been in touch with my telco and they have put on my phone choose to refuse and I have barred the number. Just to let the rest of you know.

I had a silent call from that same number last night (Monday 28/5/07) at 21:41 hrs.

My number's TPS registered.

020 7019 3927
0207 019 3927
02070193927

What do you mean by 'quite dodgy'? Silent? Abusive? Obscene?

I had anothert silent call from that same number this morning (Wednesday 30/5/07) at 10:37 hrs.

When I called back on BT, I just got the unobtainable tone but, when I dialled via 18185, I got a recording of a broad American-accented female saying, "Please enter your authorisation code" and then, "If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again."

Does anyone know if there are phones on the market which can do this for you? ie. Store a list of unwanted callers, and automatically drop calls from those numbers (and do the same for withheld numbers), or preferably play them a snotty "go away" message? This would be better than Choose to Refuse for two reasons. Firstly you wouldn't have to pay monthly, and secondly you'd have a record of each time a company unlawfully called your number (if you're on the TPS list)

you can request via your service provider to have "number withheld" calls not answered. i'll look up the 02 number on our systems and see what it comes up with.( wouldn't hold my breath though)

I've been getting calls from Belfast and when I try to call back that snooty woman comes on and says, "The number you are calling has not been recognised...". (Why does she sound so sinister? Wouldn't want to hear her at 5 in the morning! - lol)

Incredibly, BT charge more for barring withheld numbers than they do for Choose to Refuse, which is crazy since CTR must be more difficult to administer! These services really shouldn't be regarded as premium either. Or don't they think being able to take control of the calls you receive is a basic function?

As for my own previous question, I guess you could filter out calls from certain numbers if you have a phone which can assign different rings to different numbers. If the phone allows a silent ring, you could banish unwanted numbers for free! If it can do the same for withheld numbers...
