Recommend an Audio System
I'm looking to buy a new (basic) audio system. There's so much choice I thought that it would be useful if I just listed my requirements and gathered a few recommendations from those in the know.
My requirements are CD Player (a multi changer would be nice but not essential) Cassette Tape Player (We have so many tapes that we'd like to play occassionaly) FM Tuner/DAB Tuner Budget up to £250 It needs to be a relatively small form factor, we have no space for some of the huge music systems that look as if they belong in star trek, and be stylish. I've looked at the Sony CMTSPZ90DAB but I'm a bit concerned at some of the reviews. The DAB aerial isn't up to the job in poor signal areas and I'd rather have the option of using a proper aerial if I need one. So does anybody have any recommendations (or don't touch with a bargepole warnings) Thanks, Kevin |

You could without stretching your budget too much get a pretty decent hi-fi if you look around carefully.
Cambridge Audio are making some pretty decent kit these days and I believe their reliability has improved considerably. Richer Sounds outlets stocks their stuff and they may have some sale items that would keep costs down. You should be able to pick up some relatively good small speakers from there as well - someting like Mission, Kef or Tannoy. I know it's tempting to go in to the likes of Curry's etc and pick up a micro system for about the £250 mark but with a bit of research and work you could up the sound quality for your money. If you do go down the all in one small system route Denon used to do some really good stuff at about that sort of money. I assume they still do ? |
