dvd only plays in black and white
hi
Am just round my grandad's. He's had problems with his Sky box and had workmen round to fix it. However, now dvds only play in black and white. The sky is fine but they've obviously done something to stop the colour working. all the cables seem to be in fine and pushed in properly any ideas? |

Maybe the scart socket that the DVD player is using is set to S-Video rather than RGB?
You can probably test this by swapping over the scart cables for Sky and DVD and see if that fixes it. Check how the AV connections are set up on the TV |

Black and white usually means S-video.
If the dvd player has not been accidentally set to output S-video instead of RGB then it may have been connected to a different scart input on the tv that is configured for s-video. |

Or that the TV is set to NTSC. AV2 on Panasonics are so easy to accidently switch to it, one press of the green button and its B&W. Sky chap could of removed the scart out of the digibox input for some reason (could of cured the sky fault) and connected into the AV2 tv socket that was set to NTSC for ages. It can happen on Sanyos but to a lesser extent. Not saying this is the problem, but this answer has been right so many times in the past for me that its worth mentioning. |

Not saying this is the problem, but this answer has been right so many times in the past for me that its worth mentioning. Panasonic tv's switch automatically between NTSC and PAL when fed the signals. Black and white may result from feeding NTSC in via RF but not by scart. I have had Panny sets for over 12 years and there never has been a switch for NTSC. The sets change format depending on the signal sent out by the connected device |
