Seems a bit unfair to me - playing Pharoah - not Joseph - but still directed by one of the judges, who presumedly cast him....

This has come up before, I don't really see that it matters.

I think most of us know this by now. It was mentioned right near the start of the live shows.

Forgive me if it's old news - let's not drag it all up again! Still seems slightly unfair to me...

Why does it seem unfair to you?

Just why he was never offered a bigger part internally?

I am not a Lee fan but why does this matter? Maybe him getting a bigger part was just not a possibility. And getting a part in Joseph isn't that hard so it's not that big a deal, people in my class have been in the chorus of the touring production...

Indeed, this is old news for most, but when you watch all the Josephs singing 'Song of the King', Lee just sings it so relaxed as it was his part for the tour. He knows it inside out and back to front and even does an Elvis snarl. Well worth watching again and, imo, gives you a real insight of just how good the Meadster will be as Joseph

Just a minute before you watch it though look out for the line they gave Lewis which was 'skinny & vile'. How mean, I'd never be so cruel

And see how you can't understand a word that Keith says at all.

The 'discarded ones' are all pretty good though - praps they shouldn't have gone at all

It's another problem that I have with Lee that he still comes across as too powerful to me. I totally get him as Pharoah, or either of the main male parts in Phantom, but really not as Joseph.

Thanks for that, hadn't seen it for a while, really enjoyed it,

Lee did look sooo at home, he was terrific. Another good acting job from Ben. Daniel was great too

And Keith was just shockingly bad. Not one word could I make out, maybe 'baker' but that's all.

Persumably ALW also cast him for phantom ! 2 out of 4 judges with an interest seems an unfair advantage to me.

ALW said at the beginning of the show that he didn't know Lee - he prob didn't cast the understudies.

Nah, I'd believe it. ALW has lots of projects on the go, he can't be personally seeing to the casting of every understudy, that's why they employ casting directors, that's their job.

well thats what he said at the beginning of ADWD - and maybe hes simply a busy man. bit niave to think he has time to oversee everything himself.

Yes of cause they have casting directors ,I know ALW dosent cast everything himself !but its his show and he would have known Lee was understudying a major roll.

no - there is every chance that he didn't - sure the actual lead, but the understudy, sure thats what his staff are for.

He may have wrote the musical along with Tim Rice, but I am quite sure he does not have a hand in every production of Jospeh all across the world! I think we have to realise how many productions of Joseph there are world-wide. How can we possibly imagine that ALW has working knowledge of them all, Lee starred in a touring production - it wasn't even the West End.

ALW was not the producer or director of this tour.......just the writer! Do you think before he died Arthur Miller, the playwright cast every production of every one of his plays world wide.

Have some sense people!
