I'm trying to compile a list by THIS friday of album tracks, B sides etc written by Band members NOT regarded as the main songwriter.Artist. ie George Harrison for the Beatles, Bruce Foxton for the Jam etc. Any suggestions for GOOD tunes which will show off my - ahem- knowledge?

If we're sticking to strictly good songs....

Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky (Rick Wright)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - She's So Fine (Noel Redding)
The Who - Boris The Spider (John Entwistle)
The Beach Boys - Feel Flows (Carl Wilson)
The Rolling Stones - In Another Land (Bill Wyman)

Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode wrote 3 songs on their latest album having never written for the band (although he had had a solo album out) previously - Suffer Well, Nothing's Impossible and I Want It All.

I love all Denny Laine's lead vocals on Wings albums, tho 'Time To Hide' (Speed of Sound) was the only song he wrote on his own.

Shame both of Jimmy McCulloch's songs for Wings are rubbish, as he seemed to be obsessed with drugs as a subject matter. Why am I not surprised to learn that he died in his 20s?

You mentioned Bruce Foxton, Reg.......I assume you've already noted his excellent 'Freak' solo top 40 hit?

Guns of Brixton by The Clash was written by Paul Simonon, who also did the vocals on it.
