Windmill - 'Puddle City Racing Lights'
Listen to this album, it's very good! Predictable but inevitable comparisons include; Arcade Fire, Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips, Coldplay etc....so if you like massive, emotive, piano-led, alt-pop anthems, listen to this album.
Windmill is Matthew Thomas Dillon. He's from Newport Pagnell but he doesn't sound like it when he sings....in fact, he's got an unusual voice, but don't let that put you off these wonderfully constructed songs until you've listened to this album. Start with myspace/windmillband but also check out the song 'Tokyo Moon'. ps. Listen to this album .

Musically it's pretty good although his voice is very much an acquired taste. Apparently he's going down a storm in Japan and in some parts of Europe but no major breakthrough here yet. Well worth a listen if you fancy something completely different though. |

. I do think his voice might put some people off. If he sounded like Chris Martin or Tom Chaplin he would probably do better.....but I like unusual voices so I'm happy.I read an interview where he was talking about touring/promoting the songs properly in the UK later this year so he might have some success then .

Wow, another response.
Can see what you mean about the Flaming Lips comparison.......vocally he sounds very Wayne Coyne, doesn't he? Played it a couple of times to give it a chance......not bad, but I'll have to check out a bit more to become a convert....... Talking of Arcade Fire comparisons, I've been listening to The National a lot lately......excellent band.......loved their two last albums........

I really like The National too, although I don't really think of them as being like Arcade Fire. I think they're more low-key/subtle/introspective. I wasn't sure about the new album at first but it's such a grower
