Hey,

I know this is such a buzz term! But I am absolutely loving the nu-rave scene thats about at the moment!

Some amazing bands such as the klaxons, sunshine underground and CSS are creating some really exciting music!

I have seen Klaxons and am going to be seeing the new young pony club soon and the vibe at the gigs is brilliant!

Glow sticks and air horns (like the old rave days) but updated with new more rocky music and a new clothing style!

As a scene, it's awful. It's a shame, because Klaxons (although a little bit over-rated) are a good band and CSS and New Young Pony Club who are very good bands have been cursed with this label by the music press.

I just think it's indicative of the media's obsession with classifying things and pigeonholing them and dividing them and sub-dividing them into genres and sub-genres. New Rave is not a movement - just a lazy umbrella term to describe any band with a dancey beat who use a guitar and a synthesizer.

As for the posers and stupid kids with glowsticks, they've just fallen for the big media stampede about it all. I feel sorry for the Klaxons having to put up with these idiots and hangers-on, actually. They seem to have been unfairly typecast.

Well they are in the press saying they like being the pioneers of nu rave, and are happy with being in that scene, but ok!

Record company spokesmen - they're businessmen now. I blame the major label monopoly.

Record company spokesmen
Record company spokemen telling the band what to say in a tv interview?
I can't see Klaxons saying what some exec tells em to.

I can!

They are a band who had a little bit of street cred about 18 months ago, sold their souls to a major label and are no obliged to be a mouthpiece for them. That's what vrtually every band anyone's ever heard of does. It's an unfortunate situation, but the major labels own virtually anything and proper independent labels struggle. I'm sorry to say we'll never see another Factory Records start up again. Artistic credibility has to be relinquished by most bands now in favour of doing what the record company tells them to. I hate that, but that's how it is now.

Nu Rave is just another thing the NME came up with and it's rubbish.

It seems that way, yes. The magazine coined the term to try and make indie pop like the Klaxons seem more interesting, but some genuinely good bands (especially New Young Pony Club) have been cursed with the glowsticks-and-air horns image and I hope their credibility doesn't suffer as a result. Musically, I'd say they're far more New Order than New Rave.
