I think some albums are too long - ie the latest Chilli Peppers one and this puts me off listening to them.

The new Bluetones album is only 35 minutes long and although it is short I really like that. I can't stand songs that seem to be just fillers. Supergrass have made short albums too which is good and the recent Weezer album wasnt much more than 30 minutes.

I think the ideal length would be between 45 minutes and 60 minutes.

I totally agree. Around 50 minutes is best. Any longer than 60 minutes and quality does begin to suffer. Also, with the best will in the world, your attention does begin to wander after that time anyway.

I think albums can be too long. But I also like to think that there are enough tracks on there, for value for money.

Its the quality of the songs that should determine how long an album is. Oasis suffered with Be Here Now because it was too long. I actually think By The Way by the Chili Peppers is a fantastic album, and I find that time flys by when im listening to it.

I would rather have an album that is solid throughout rather than just have filler just to fill up a CD. The likes of Bon Jovi used to make albums that were top loaded with their best songs in the first few tracks, then just have filler. I hardly listen to their albums anymore.

My favorite album of all time is U2's Achtung Baby. 12 tracks, 55mins running time, all the songs are amazing, each telling a small story that all songs put together give a bigger picture. Epic.

Ive found the same kind of epic albums that range from 35mins to 78mins running time. It all depends on the depth and quality of the songs.

The new Linkin Park CD is only 36 minutes in length.
It seems longer as the songs sound quite similar - that's not such a bad thing though if you like Linkin Park.

Shortness is the weakness of many albums that are otherwise excellent, for example Parachutes by Coldplay. Ten tracks and a little over 40 minutes is a bit too short, but then the quality is very high with no crap. Ideally I think albums should be around an hour, longer if the quality of tracks permits. Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Chilis is one of my favourite abums ever and that weighs in at 17 tracks and 74 minutes. Crappy tracks added solely to boost length should always be avoided though. Quality, not quantity

To be honest, the more powerful the music the shorter the CD should be, IMO.

An hour of Linkin Park is pretty draining if you're totally rocking out, but i can easily stomach two hours or more of some ambient or comedown music.

Like Dan says, filler sucks...but at least Bon Jovi did it the right way by giving you albums you could just listen to the first half of and then eject...no fast forwarding needed!

It does not pay if people buy an album on the strength of 1 song like some people do.
