im thinking of buying one of these this weekend. http://www.aldi.co.uk/sunday_special_buys/index.html
do you think its any good ?
Does anybody have any experience of tevion lcd's? any advice would be appreciated.
it does come with a three year warranty and the specs don't seem too bad (it has a 5ms refresh rate) but then im no expert, and i don't know if they will have a display model plugged in so i can see the picture quality. ive heard people say large lcd's are no good but they seem to be the most popular in the shops now. oh im all confused again
would appreciate your views thanks in advance.

Cheap TV's have cheap pictures - make sure you're happy with the picture quality - and if you are?, don't ever put it on side by side with a more expensive one!.

When i called in to my local aldi at midday there were eight of them still out for sale obviously not the big seller that they expected them to be.

Took the plunge and bought one and i must admit im very pleased with it. Easy to set up and and it has a very good picture. does not seem to suffer from smearing like some other cheaper (and some more expensive) lcd's i have looked at. I would say the picture quality is far from cheap and it would fight it's corner very well when compared against some of the big brand name opposition that i have been checking out over the last few weeks that fell in to my budget range of up to £1000 max.
Hooked up the PS3 and all i can say is wow spot on! the games now look fantastic. and as the PS3 now upscales as well even my DVD's are very very presentable. On the whole very pleased and as already said in the post above the store manager told me if im not happy just bring it back within 30 days and i can have a full refund.
and on top of that a three year parts and labour guarantee to boot. So on the whole so far i am very happy with my purchase.

Apparently it has a LG Phillips A+ LCD Panel according to the aldi leaflet.

I'm thinking of getting it as well, so I have a few questions.

Does it have a VGA input?
Does it perform well playing games?
Do you have to transport it vertically or is that plasma screens?
Has it got any cool undocumented features?

It was only Plasma screens - and while 'only vertical' isn't a bad idea, it's not as crucial as that - but what you musn't do is have it upside down, it can destroy the panel.

It has a DVI input to connect your pc up to, if your PC graphics card only has a vga connection you will need a converter/ adaptor, only a few quid at maplins.

It performs extremely well when i play my PS3 games on it. The games look stunning and don't judder or smear.

You can transport it laying down just fine .

It also has a CI input slot so you can fit a CAM and Card so you could subscribe and access Setanta sports if you wish. (im not sure if TUTV still have service other than their PVR based TUTV Anytime offering).

Pretty good remote as well with a nice aluminium face.

The SD picture quality is (imo) very good ( digital is even better than analogue )and certainly as good as many other lcd's and plasmas that i looked at that fell in to my price range of up to £1000.

hope this helps. but why not give it a try anyway because you can always get your money back if your not satisfied

I have just purchased one of these TV's and so far I am pleased with the picture and overall quality, I use a TiVo including the usual DVD & VCR components connected to it, however when I used to have my old fat tv connected to the TiVo etc. I was able to control many of the standard R/C features such as volume, standby, mute etc. from the TiVo controller but I need the Tevion R/C code does anyone out there know what the code is for the Tevion R/C?

Also does anyone know if you can connect an external speaker system to the TV from one of the outputs, I have a Bose AM5 setup that I would love to get connected to the TV

This TV has been a major upgrade from our previous 32" CRT set. We have no HD quality source, but it still looks and sounds fantastic.

It has lots of inputs and inputs/outputs, 2 SCART, 2 HDMI, 1 VGA, 1 component etc.

I have one niggle, when I connect the stereo audio output to my hi-fi I get the sound from the TV tuner, not from the input device selected. So, if I am watching a live program there is no problem, but when watching a recorded program or DVD the hi-fi is playing the wrong sound source.

I bought a Tevion 42" from Aldi last year, had it 27 days and tok it back. It was on ok set for an ok price. Bought a Sony 40" to replace it, cost abot £150 more but streets ahead in performance.

Loads of offers for quality brands out there now not too much more than Aldi's offer but much better sets IMHO
