Duets

Am i the only one that thinks that two men doing a duet could end up looking very cheesey and if it is a love song ........well.

I can only think of Oasis or the Proclaimers who have pulled it off successfully.

Sam and Mark were terrible

What do you think?

One of my most favourite songs ever, is "More than Words" by Extreme. A perfect example of a male duet, I saw them perform it live and they were superb.

Wow Gilly

Thanks for that link- I forgot about them- how could I? I wonder though if it is the musical instruments that help. Think two guys just standing singing - Sam and Mark classic case of pure cheese- although the songs didn't help

What was the sam and Mark duet?

But with the Oasis and Proclaimmers duets was it not a case of a song sang by 2 people (a bit like the song offs) rather than a song written as 2 parts as most man/woman duets are?

Personally a 'man/man' duet that i love is George ♥ and Elton

- No cheese at all, ,probably because its not a love song. I don't particularly want to see them singing songs that were meant for a man&woman

Thanks for that clip gilly. love that song. always used to make me

Lulu

I should be ashamed of myself for posting this

I loved Sam's rocky voice which was drowned out in the duo

I know it's a bygone era but you can't beat Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra singing 'Who wants to be a millionaire" in High Society. Probably cheesy but very classy too.

On a lighter note I've seen the old Beatles tune 'With A Little Help From My Friends' done as a male duet and that works.

Lol you didn't see the Sam and Mark one then - it was pure cheese but at least Sam got his rocky note in

That has been slightly bothering me too The duet last week had a slight air of homo eroticism about it, but it still worked!

Most of the sucessful ones posted, Extreme, George and Elton, do involke a musical instrument which immediately solves the problem. Tonight could be MT though, so the curse of just standing there can be avoided. Also it could be uptempo and involve dancing and I imagine the Josephines could help

but you have to remember that a lot of "duets" in MT are two characters BUT they are not necessarily singing to each other

Righteous Brothers, Walker Bros, The Everly Brothers some of the best male vocal harmonies you will ever hear and also some of the real classic love songs - definitely not cheesy like Daydream Believer!

yeah but even if they were - its acting isn't it and surely class actors can sing to, or kiss or whatever a man or a woman and make it look genuine - the difference between musical theatre singing and straight - (pardon the pun) singing?

Nope missed that one!

I saw David Sneddon and Ainslie Henderson sing it on the first series of Fame Academy.

It would suit Keith vocally because you can really let rip if you have a good voice, which is what David did when he performed it. It's a good showcase for a strong voice.

That is one reason why I didn't like Will and Gareth singing Long and Winding Road. Will didn't like it either apparently.

Scott Walker my Idol of my younger years brilliant.

Simon and Garfunkle another great Duo.

P.S. Back to Sam and Mark - they should never have formed a musical duo as they have 2 completely different styles. Sam has a fantastic rocky voice and it's a shame it wasn't heard in the Duo. But all is not lost Sam fronts a band called Mason as a hobby and is performing tonight in Barnsley. Check the Messageboard of my website for more details.

I was quite taken by the duet from Ben and Keith! I would love to have a good recording (MP3 or AVI). It's on youtube but the quality is ... bad.
So if you know where I can get it please say so!
