i'm afraid i had to google her but as soon as i saw her and the name 'Nyssa' i remembered her!!

Well frankly I get all sniffy about assitants/companions mooning over the good doctor, I am old enough to remember that there was none of that nonsense with Jon Pertwee or Patrick Troughton, and to be honest Dr Who never needed sub plots of alleged lurve interest between the Dr and his travelling companion, BUT I am also not so stupid as to think that is wasn't/isn't going to happen.

I do think that Martha getting all lovey dovey at the site of DT is a bit off putting especially so recently after Rose, and as has been suggested it does give a hint of Rose 'by any other name' and does not do justice to her character and the Freema's abilities and if it were to carry on would suggest that all future assistants are going to end up being merely love sick puppies, who occasionally can beat up the odd dalek, not that beating up the odd dalek is not a good thing, if anything it should be more of that rather than mooning silly little girls pining over DT's sneakers. Which again does Martha's character no justice at all, remember she is a trainee doctor (MD, not timelord)

So could we have a bit more of Martha and a lot less of Rose 2.0 or get someone else in, preferably with a lot less puppy love for DT or whoever the doctor happens to be.

I like Martha. I think she's trendier and a little less tacky than Rose.

I suppose this is inevitable. Even if Martha did get axed, people would still be comparing the new companion with Rose, whether it's a man, another woman, a dog or a goldfish!!

Rose is gone now!! Let us move on. Give Freema a chance for Pete's sake. I bet Billie had her critics when she had her debut.

Rose was awful - just awful. she had too, too much personality - yuk.

EVERY companion has been better - and i mean that.

I cannot take Martha seriously, it's mainly because of wooden acting by Freema. Granted Bille wasn't a great actress either, Bille actually did a far better job in Bella and the Boys, but she was a better actress, and her character was better than Martha.

Too many episodes have been ruined because of Freema shouting "DOCTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR".

I think for most people its the pathetic scripts and the flagrant contempt that RTD has for his adult viewers that RUIN the progammes.

Forget comparisons between Martha and Rose, you only have to look at the most recent episode The Family of Blood to see that Freema was out acted by almost every other cast member, particularly Jessica Hynes as Joan. I will watch the rest of the series with interest to see how well Freema/Martha fares against such acting heavyweights as Sir Derek Jacobi and John Simm. However I hope the writers will give Freema more to work with than the current 'love-sick puppy' routine, the current writing invites comparisons with Rose by using the romance angle again. I see that ITV are reporting that both David Tennant and Freema Agyeman are signed up for series 4, and that the recent rumours of her being axed/sacked are untrue. I just hope for Freema's sake that the future writing/storylines do the character of Martha justice, otherwise this recent critism will only be the tip of the iceberg.

hey let's be fair 99.99% of all actors will be sent into oblivion by the likes of John Sims and honestly there's no chance for any poor s*d with Sir Derek anywhere near an episode. Just hope he doesn't resort to a 'Claudius cameo' at anytime.

I also agree poor Freema could be the finest actress of her generation (we she COULD) but her character isn't exactly the greatest piece of scripting on tv.

H77 still has a hankering that an older doctor could be Sir Derek, but isn't so stupid as to think it is ever going to happen.

Freema is a hopeless, wooden and charismaless actress. She is ruining the current series with her flat performances. I hope she is axed as soon as possible.

The majority of the scipts this season are doing a fine job of that without her.

Martha is cool. She is also hotter than hell

Freema isn't a terrible actress. She plays her character well - if there's a downfall it's how the writers are developing her "lovesick puppy" stuff with the Doctor. I think a relationship similar to the one he had with Donna would be good to watch.

People are being two faced moaning about Martha, they said the exact same thing about Rose and now they miss her.

I don't.

Rose was a dog!

Her character/personality was just as ugly as her physical form.

My liking of Martha has only gone downhill since the series began. I'm more inclined to blame the mopey-in-love scripts so far...

it is kind of amusing that so many people are willing to say things like Martha is spoiling the programme, but do not seem to apportion blame anywhere else.

Can some who are so ready to cristicise Martha for merely shrieking 'Doctooooooooor,' or 'What are we going to do?'. They must remember she is merely saying what she is given and when we have heard that for the 437th time this season I am certain we would all find some serious flaws in a performance from Olivier, Gielguid or any of the finest actors living or dead.

I have always hated the great Sir Laurence Olivier in the film version of Othello, which was best described as a 'West Indian bus conductor on acid', but having seen other versions on stage and in film, I have been pulled up and seen that actually the part of Othello is rather naff and it is only the likes of Iago and Desdemona who make his route from Hero to Zero anywhere near tolerable and that role is the eponymous 'hero' from the greatest playwright ever, no discussion needed.

So if Olivier couldn't give a decent performance, even I must admit that perhaps the role was lacking something from the writer and the blame cannot be all on the back of the poor schmuck on the screen.

Perhaps we should all consider that Martha Jones or Rose mark II is not working and maybe the writers have stuffed up this time in trying to keep too close to what they thought was a winning formula for an assistant.

AND maybe the writers should take this a lesson that just changing the actor in either of the major roles (doctor or assistant) is not going to make Dr Who last as long as it should, how will we be all howling at the next Doctor's performance if ends up being merely a cheaper version of DT.

And from a personal point of view having watched this season I doubt I could have stood another year of Rose, Martha seeing the doctor as untouchable is well frankly far better than the Rose and The Doctor taking moonlit walks hand in hand on some far flung twin sunned lovers lane.

Sorry, but I think Freema is a poor actress, although I don't think the Martha character is exactly brilliant, either.

I remember when it was K9 and Sarah Jane, you had the proper chemistry there with the doctor. You saw his "human" side that you could relate to with his interaction with SJ, but in the same breath you heard the quips and admonishments from K9 that made you realise that he was a time genius.

I think RTD should do away with martha in a good way, and bring us in a male sidekick like we had in the 80's for a while with McCoy.
