Ericsson k800i on Three HELP!
I am currently on three with a SE w850i but want to move to the k800i. I am not due for upgrade for another 6 months, but was wondering if it is possible to buy this phone PAYG and put in my sim card.
Here is the catch, three doesn't offer this phone on PAYG, if I buy it for another network will it be locked to that network? Are there any networks which do not lock their phones? Can this phone be unlocked? Thanks for your help in advance! |

You should be able to buy an unlocked K800 relatively easily, and even if it is locked, get it unlocked without much hassle. However, most PAYG phones will be locked and/ or branded. I'd get one off eBay or just buy a "handset only" option.
Your best bet is to phone 3 and tell them you want to buy a K800, unlocked, will it work on their network. I suspect it all should be fine, but better to check first |

Thanks for the help! I went to three shop today, I know the guy who works there, he walked me round to carphone warehouse and sorted me out with the right kit.
Apparently carphone warehouse sell the k800i unlocked. They offer it on all the networks and just include a different registration pack, so the phone is unlocked to work on any of the networks and when you turn it on you just select your network and it has all the settings on there. So it all worked out and I am now the happy owner of a new k800i |

Problem is though if you want to use or download anything from planet 3 you cant.
Neither can you use the free MSN messenger supplied by 3. I would think the only way you can use these is by having the phone flashed with the 3 firmware. |

I seem to be able to get on planet 3 fine, have downloaded a few tracks with my inclusive downloads and they work a treat. I have not tried MSN yet, but all the internet content seems to work fine straight out of the box. I just choose '3Browse' from the internet settings when I set up the phone
What i meant to say is that planet 3 will work so will music etc but when it comes to downloading games and msn messenger it wont. The 3 firmware has certificates and the games and msn check for them so wont work. If its possible to flash the phone with the 3 firmware then do so as my g/f had one on 3 and its fine. no branding at all on it really. |
