...it's possible to ensure when you buy tickets that you are seeing who you think you will see in the lead and not the understudy?

Not if you want to buy them now, I don't think.

In terms of Sound of Music, it is possible to find out for example when Connie is on holiday, and which nights she doesn't perform.

I imagine the same info will be available once we know who the lead is and the show opens.

But, still no guarantee they won't be ill at the last minute on that day, even if they are set to perform.

Hope that helps.

I contacted the Adelphi and they said that untill the winned of ADWD was established and contracts were signed nothing is certain so they could'nt give any definate detials. For anyone buying thickets now its pot luck - but if you wait till after the final you may have difficulty getting tickets at all.

Strictly speaking the winner should be doing all 8 shows a week for the immediate future I would think? Barring illness, exhaustion etc. I would hope he hasn't got a holiday booked over the next few months !

That's what I thought too, although I read that Connie doesn't do two of the eight per week. So if whoever wins doesn't do two a week, a chance for one of the other boys.....?

(And if it's Ben, I am in that ticket queue!!)

It's Aoife who does the other two shows - and I've heard she is much, much better than Connie. Anyone seem her?

As far as the main thread is concerned, according to a friend of mine who works in Box Office (not Adelphi), you are only entitled to a refund if the "star" has their name ABOVE the title on the poster. As this is unlikely to happen in Joseph, if Lee/Ben/Keith aren't on then you have no come back at all. Worth checking with Stage Door before you book - but obviously that isn't going to help if they are ill on the day.

I wonder what Aoife's understudy, who does 2 shows a week for her, is like.

There is no telling when a star wil be performing until the curtain goes up really. Sometimes the understudys get very little notice of when they are going on.

But, the liklihood of seeing the winning joseph is probably very high for the first 3 or 4 months.

Someone on here (can't remember who) said they'd seen both Connie and Aoife and that Connie was much better.

No - becuase there is always the chance of sickness etc.

Often when a run is reasonably underway, the leads will each have a night of the week off (or sometimes more). This is generally a regular thing and usually, if you ask at the box-ofice, they will tell you. These days it is sometimes publicised openly - as for Maria currently, and with Acorn Antiques a couple of years ago (you were told you wouldn't get Julie Walters on Mondays - though when I went Neil whatsit was off, and that wasn't publicised, though it was apparently regular for that night). Obviously, the situation changes when someone is actually ill, or something - you can't predict that. As someone said above, this sort of detail will be in the contract.

As a related point, does anyone know when Aoife started doing the 2 shows a week? Was it right from the start of the run or only after the first few months had passed? I have tickets for July and although I will no doubt enjoy the show whoever is playing Joseph I would be a bit annoyed if I got the understudy so soon into the run (barring illness of the lead etc)

^ I assume it was late on Aoife started on Maria as she did Chicago beforehand (and maybe other things?). Basically Connie was sure she would manage 8 shows a week and if I remember correctly she couldnt manage it so she was given 2 shows off (after having a week or so off?)

I've got tickets for the 1st night on July 6th! Can't wait - I've got my new dress, tummy holding knickers, hair being done in the morning....

(Lee, you can come and have my other ticket if you don't win and we'll have a singalong and diss the winner).

Anyone else from here going then?

and I've also seen both and would say Aoife was much better (connie is very good though).

Its all down to personal tastes at the end of the day. Aoife is the better actress though.

If Lee wins I'm almost certain he will perform 8 shows a week. The reason Connie had to cut down wasn't because she couldn't handle it. It was because she sang through a throat infection, ALW will not let the Joseph make the same mistake.

Connie wasn't originally going to do all 8 though - there was all that hoo-hah with that other girl (Emma someone???) who left before it started.
