Emmerdale 6 days a week

I've noticed that from tomorrow Emmerdale is now 6 days a week. Is it just me, or is this going to be overkill?

Time to cut down on soaps this is just pushing it too far. Now's the time to make more long running series like friends and er not just soaps which dominate the schedule.Sorry soap lovers

Emmerdale has an extra episode periodically but it isn't a permanent plan...as yet.

it's certinally there for the next 2 weeks, and the move to 6 days is actually mentioned in todays Daily Mail "weekend" magazine soap review.

I think it's a test period to see how well it stands up.

If the storylines can stand it then fine. Personally I don't mind an extra episode on Sunday - but what about 'The Simpsons!

6 days is too much. I don't watch it but if any of my favourite soaps went 6 days a week then i'd probably loose track eventually and stop watching.

Besides, producing 6 episodes a week must be very hard work with very little, if any time to reherse and scripts will need to be written much quicker which will result in a lower quality programme.

I think Coronation Street is rumoured to be thinking along the same lines. I guess it's just less costly to fill the schedule with well established programmes than to spend money on new ones which may not hit the mark.

I heard corrie were planning to go 5 days officially rather than just an unofficial 2nd ep on Monday

It doesnt meant that they'll be filming 6 days a week, they probably get 2 or 3 episodes filmed in one day at present.

I thought that when Emmerdale went five nights a week, that quality dropped. That seems now to have sorted itself out over time, but now it's playing up it's strengths, I hope ITV don't pull it back down again by weakening it with yet a sixth episode. Strange time of the year too for such a pilot scheme, I'd have thought Autumn, unless they're aiming for an Autumn launch of the sixth episode if the trials show there's the demand for it.
