In my ideal world the guys would each have sung one of my favorites and here is what my selection would be (I haven't done everyone, as this post is probably too long anyway):

Chris B: With So Little To Be Sure Of (Sondheim, Anyone Can Whistle) - it would pefectly suit his voice and style

Ben: You've Got Possibilities (Charles Strouse, It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman) - sung by a woman in the show, but I've heard men perform it in concert and on disc to great effect - it's relatively little-known, but a great show-stopper

Rob: Mr Cellophane (Kander & Ebb, Chicago) - he needed something without the showbiz smile

Daniel: Lonely Town (Bernstein, On The Town) - to get us all in tears

Craig: Marry Me (Kander & Ebb, The Rink) - a sweet little romantic number he could do nicely

Lewis: Giants In the Sky (Sondheim, Into the Woods) - a bit of a challenge, as it's quite intricate both in lyrics and melody, but I think it would suit his range well

Lee: Just In Time (Styne, Bells Are Ringing) - nothing like an up-tempo romantic number to stop the show

Keith: What Do I Want With Love (Sandy Wilson, Valmouth) - a bit obscure, but good for a strong, bright, forward voice

Actually, what I'd really like next Saturday would be the trio from Gypsy, You Gotta Get A Gimmick, with Lee as Miss Mazeppa, Keith as Miss Electra and Lewis as Miss Tessie Tura. This probably isn't going to happen except in my stranger dreams, though I think lots of people would pay good money to see it.

Does anyone else fancy a go?

I would have loved Lee singing Always by Bon Jovi - his voice is perfectly suited for it and I love that song.

Daniel would have been brill singing "Love Changes Everything" the Michael Ball Song , another ALW composition.

Dont really care about the others lol. Sorry

It's been mentioned several times but I would love to have heard Lee sing 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables' from Les Mis.

I would also love to have heard someone have a go at the title song from 'Sunset Boulevard' - perhaps Daniel?

I've only chosen the ones I rate as singers....

Lee: "There But For You Go I" from "Brigadoon"..... he has such passion when delivering the story

Seamus: "I'm A Bad, Bad Man" from "Annie Get Your Gun"..... he certainly is and he was eliminated WAY too soon

Daniel: "Pilate's Dream" from "Jesus Christ Superstar" ..... he would have been superb at such a controlled piece - I really didn't like his swaggering, cheeky-chappy routines, he's much classier than that

Craig: "Blow Gabriel, Blow" from "Anything Goes" - my favourite all-time showstopper.... the cabaret style that he was so criticised for would have been spectacular in this kind of number

Anthony: "If I Can't Have Her" from "Beauty & The Beast" ......another great singer who went too soon due to a crappy song

Keith: "Younger Than Springtime" from "South Pacific"...... because he just looks so young and naive and it's got great contrast for such a strong voice

This is a great thread, just a pity it's got so few takers...possibly because few of us are as qualified musically to articulate what we like and why we'd want a articular performer to sing it?

I think Daniel's voice is beautifully suited to deep, soulful, longing tunes that can also aor with intense emotion.

Wonder what you'd think of him doing something like ALW's Midnight...; or having a stab at one of the more mellow pieces from a G&S opera, eg 'I have a song to sing, oh...'

Wonder if his voice could do a Puccini soaring melody ?!
There's also a gorgeous serenade in one of Donizetti's operas(l'Eisir D'Amore) that might fit his controlled singing pefectly.

Don't think L'Elisir d'Amour would be quite right for him....but I'm all for the G&S suggestion

Daniel's voice would definitely sound great on classical stuff, but he'd need to change his singing style quite a bit.

..As an old 'Seekers' fan I think some of their ballads would have sounded delicious done by the boys....and Boys in particular!

The serenade from L'Elisir D'Amore is more a ballad type song and the melody is one of those that imprints itself instantaneously on your mind! The rest of that opera I agree is possibly more for a classical singer.

I do know the aria you're talking about and I do think his voice would suit it. It's just that he sings in a very musical theatre type of way... which is no criticism, of course, just I don't think his singing style would suit it without some adjustments.

Great thread and I'd imagine some of us have thought quite a lot about this. And apologies for the one-sidedness of this, but some Josephs grab me more than others.

Daniel - there are many, many songs I'd like to hear Daniel sing. If I loved you, from Carousel, because it's such a beautiful song and one that needs to be sung so simply, and he definitely has the voice for it. I've always thought that Daniel would sit really well with Cole Porter, maybe something like de-lovely (cheesy, but he could pull it off) or goodbye little dream. The G&S suggestion is interesting, some nice stuff but in general I find the male leads characterless. As a song, Wandering Minstrel might work though.

Lee - needs edgy and intense. After his Paint it Black performance I'd love to hear him sing Gethsemane, or one of the Judas songs. I'd also love to hear him sing some of the Emcee songs from Cabaret, he'd be able to bring that bitter tone across well. Empty chairs at Empty tables (obviously). Like Daniel, there's very little I wouldn't like to hear him do.

Craig - I wish we'd seen him do more musical theatre, because he was fab in what we saw. Mr Cellophane would suit him. I could not tell you why, but right from the start I wanted to hear him sing High Flying Adored, love that song.

Ben - wish I could send him off for intensive vocal training, because the guy has so much to offer as a performer. Leaning on a lamp-post or Lambeth walk from Me and My Girl would suit him I think. I was a little peeved at the duet choice because for a while now I wanted to hear him do Oh what a Circus, again I think he would have excelled at the bitter tone. I would also have liked to see him do a big show stopper like blow gabriel blow. I'd also like to see Ben and Daniel sing the title song from Guys and Dolls together, two very contrasting personalities, I think it would have worked well.

Lewis - I have finally seen something in Lewis (took me this long) in his duet with Lee. This is a bit obscure, but the musical is called Billy (adapted from the book Billy Liar) and the main song is called something like aren't you billy fisher. I can really imagine him doing this. Great part for a young guy too.

Antony - Luck be a Lady, because he came across very well in that group number and there is something very suave about him, in keeping with the role. I wish we'd seen more of him.

There are others Josephs that interest me, that I just can't think of anything suitable for at the moment, and sorry for the screed, got a bit carried away

I agree, I was thinking about that the other day, he would've been amazing,

I would like to see Lee sing Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, it's a lovely lullaby and would suit his intensity and vocal control.

I don't think Keith has the acting ability for it but I'd like to see if he could do Gethsemane from Jesus Christ. There is a stunning version sung by Steve Balsamo on youtube. You need a 3 octave range to really do it.

I would have like to have seen Daniel do Bring him Home on his own becuase he was truly stunning doing that.

I would probably go with Hair from Hair for Ben, I could see him bouncing around the stage to that one.

That's all I can think of at the mo.

He could sing it, but bearing in mind the intensity and acting ability which this song absolutely requires I think it would be an absymal failure. I can't think of anything worse for him actually. From a performance point of view, Lee could do it.

Oh my. How did I miss this thread for so long.

I'm a huge Sondheim fan, so my thoughts do tend that way when looking at musicals. Forgive if I turn a bit one track on this one, I'll try not to.

Lewis: As LaurieMarlow said above, I finally got on him on Saturday during his duet with Lee. Would love to hear him singing "Later" from "A Little Night Music". It's demanding musically, has a tricky lyric and requires acting. I would never have thought of him for this before Sat ...

Ben: He's too young for it, but the Emcee from "Cabaret" might work for him. Also "Giants in the Sky" from "Into the Woods", which I think someone also suggested for Lewis.

Daniel: "Buddie's Blues" from Follies. Or playing Petruchio in Kiss Me Kate. He and Lee though have the ability to span genres, so there isn't a huge amount I wouldn't like to hear him sing from MT. Just not any more ruddy pop.

Lee: Hmm. Like the Judas suggestion very much for him. "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd would suit him as well. Actually, Lee and Daniel singing the Princes duet from Into the Woods would float my boat rather a lot. But generally I'd prefer to see him sing stuff that lets him use his intensity.

Seamus: seems like a total natural for Billy Flynn from Chicago to me.

On a light note I would have loved to see the group do a couple of Rocky Horror numbers, especially the timewarp. Just to see how they played it and to see the group dance.

Also (obviously results show after 9) I would have liked to see Sweet Transvestite sung by Lee to see a cheeky side to him.

I seem to favour the happy sing-along tunes as i would have liked to seen a Abba Medley from Mamma Mia for the group number and perhaps a bit of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Lee singing the Judas part in JCSS would be great - love to hear him do Too Much Heaven on their Minds. (Eidelwiess idea nice too)

I'm not sure about the others, sorry

TBH there are a lot of good songs that were written for women that I would quite like to hear from them.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm quoting LaurieMarlow, as in a different thread I mentioned I thought Ben would be good in Me and My Girl, as I remember seeing Robert Lindsay in the role. Also, I thought I was the only person alive who remembered 'Billy'. I was taken to see it as a kid on the first family trip to London back in the 70s, with Michael Crawford in the title role, long-gone favorites Bryan Pringle and Avis Bunnage as his parents, and a newcomer with a huge voice called Elaine Page as one of his girlfriends. We had the cast album, till I wore the grooves out.

Hi, all!

It's a fab thread, this, if only to stimulate to find tunes, songs and composers mentioned here one has barely heard of or got wide knowledge of!

I must go in sackcloth and ashes, however! I have been repeatedly mentioning the Serenade from Donizetti's comic opera L'Elisir D'Amore...I must be losing me marbles entirely, as it is NOT from L'Elisir but another wonderfully joyous opera by Donizeti called Don Pasquale. Abject apologies folks! The serenade threads its way through the beginning of the Overture and , I guarantee, once heard cannot be easily forgotten. The words, in English, start with something like, 'The night is calm, the April air a balm, and the moon is fine....' It's a beautifully tender piece and is followed by a gorgeous duet with his lady love who's stuck wit old Don Pasquale for his dosh! Great fun. I do believe Daniel has it in him to sing such melodies. Like Bernstein, they sort of cross genres of MT and light opera.

Lewis singing 'Where is Love' from Oliver would be stunning, I imagine...what a great idea, Beamsley!

Anyone got suggestions for Rob, the hunky one?!

OK, we were talking at cross-purposes yesterday then! I don't know this one at all, so I'll have to take your word for it.
