The ones that immediately spring to mind are:

Anthony - Patience (Why give him a song with so much falsetto when he has such a deep voice and, apparently, had never done falsetto before?)

Daniel - It's All About You (According to his VT, the judges thought he was too nice. Then he's handed a song where the only thing he can do is sing it nicely. To top it off, three-quarters of the song consists of just one line).

Lee - Livin' On A Prayer (We've already established that shouty rock isn't his strongest genre, so why give him this in the semi-final? Plus, it's one of those "rock classics" that should never be covered as no matter what's done with it, it'll never be as good as the original).

I think it has to be poor Daniel with the god awful Evergreen, nobodies likes that song including Will Young.

I think Living on a Prayer was wrong for Lee too. Why they make these guys sing simplistic rock songs that do nothing to show their vocal prowess is beyond me.

I agree. The bad choice songs were not only those that are very difficult to sing vocally, but those that are impossible to "interpret" as ALW was asking them to do. Daydream Believer comes under that category for me. It's a pleasant, simple, song, and nothing else. How on earth they expect someone to get anything more than that out of it is beyond me.

Lee - Alright Now (giving him a shouty song when he was suffering from flu - clever!)

Rob - Back For Good (by giving him that song it was as if they were telling him they wanted him 'gone for good').

Anthony - Patience (bless him!!)

Daniel - Since You've Been Gone (why did they give him that?), All About You (Denise said she was disappointed because she wanted him to move her and 'break her heart' - with a McFly song??? What planet are you on woman !!!

Interesting thread.

It seems to balance out a bit, as pretty well 100% of the song choices have been extremely duff. I don't know what on earth the logic has been here, maybe something along the lines of -
"Songs that don't really have a story and can't be acted to, so if anyone can produce anything in the face of such stupidity they must be good"?

Thought all last weeks were particularly vile and none of them told us anything we didn't already know about the Josephs.

I think my real "Argghhhh" moment was probably Daniel and "It's All About You". Short of singing completely against the lyric and the music and making it a song about a total bitch, what was he supposed to do with it to show his edgy side?

Exactly! Simple repetitive songs are hopeless, they don't GO anywhere. 'Alright now' was one of those that particularly annoyed me.

Oh, another throw-things-at-the-telly song was Craig's 'Oh What a Night' - again, what do you do with it? Anything I have sung at wedding discos shouldn't feature in this show....

Aaah, but Paint It Black is a Stones classic that should never be covered and it was brilliant; "Performance of the Series" according to the Lord!

This must go to prove that you can cover anything but let's say with some songs you're on 'thinner ice' than others!

Chris B had a couple of bad ones, crappy 80's discopop so nondescript I can't even remember what the actual songs were.

Two that stand out are Evergreen for Daniel and Patience for Anthony.
Also I did feel for Johndeep with something's coming - the panel moaned about his interpretation of the song but surely he would have been guided on this by the panel themselves? Zoe, Bill and ALW at least seem to follow and participate in the song practices giving advice on how to perform and interpret the song during each week. (Always had a soft spot for Johndeep although Daniel was my true number one).
Also felt for Chris C with Maroon 5's This Love as not a great song for him to win over the public!

I watched it after he had been voted out of the comp, see whether your clames were true - they were not, he did not sing it well, but nice try twiggle.

Antony's rendition of Patience was just so awful it was funny.
Daniel's Maggie May, pretty much killed that one for me, (or did he kill her)
Lee's Alright Now, just after a throat virus, why god why

and last weeks selection was pretty dire to say the least!!

I know this is off the thread but I for one will truly miss Cleo1 she has put a smile on my face on more than one occasion.

Whether you personally like him or not, or think he doesn't have a great voice, (which I think he does), Ben clearly has dancing, acting and entertaining skills and the ability to make a crowd really enjoy a show and a performance.
