I was told today that it is not destined for the UK. Though they will have a 5mp cam phone on the market in q4.

Argh thats gutting! Am due for an upgrade at the end of this month and i may have been able to wait until around August but no further as my current phone is about to meltdown! Ive been hearing murmurings that it should be due out any day now but they must be wrong. Oh well! Cheers

hmm

I got the phone today from vodafone, however i was advised over the phone not to go pay as you go so instead i took out the 18 month contract, sky mobile tv and insurance, got it home. Its so easy to use how ever my phone says limited service.

its all sorted, a cracking phone though but i do have one gripe and that is the lack of a flash video player for sites like youtube (full version) and sites like that

Hi ItHasPotential,

I'm pleased to see you managed to get your phone working.
With respect to Flash support on your handset, if you're accessing Youtube through Vodafone Mobile Internet then Vodafone's built in rendering engine does support Flash. Try going to live.vodafone.com on your internet browser. You should see a link for Youtube from there.
You need to be connected via the 'Vodafone WAP' internet profile on your handset. If it's not doing that, or you're not sure how to check, just let me know what sort of handset you have and I'll look into it further.

Hope this helps,

i can't believe you can get this phone free on a 12 month contract, at such a low price per month.. with that on offer, i personally wouldn't go with an 18 mth contract..

it is a nice phone, and i am really tempted...

Hi chiliblue, the headsets have to be ordered separately from the handset so they won't be in the same box. It should normally arrive when the handset does though.

Please give us a call on 191 when you can and let us know you haven't received them. If you have any difficulty please just reply to this thread.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply..great to think Vodafone look in these forums.

In fact the phone is my wifes ordered as an upgrade on her account, so I can't call 'data protection' and all that. She is one those busy types that doesn't get around to doing things like this but armed with your info I'll make sure she does chase it up.

Thanks again.

Just for the record, they were listed seperatly on the packing list but they weren't in the mail package, that only contained the F700 box.

Does anyone know the maximum Micro SD card capacity for this phone?

I'm also having trouble with the mp3 player, trying to swipe my finger across the screen to skip back and forth between tracks is almost impossible, it seems to work just very occasionally, not the end of the world, but irritating all the same.

I can't seem to find a full user manual explaining all the different functions in detail, does one exist? The CD manual seems to be just for the PC Studio software, and the booklets that come with the phone are very basic.

It does seem a very good phone, although I havnt got my old number ported over from Orange yet, so I cant tell if the 'phone' functions, email, text, web, TV etc,. are any good.

Wow! it could save me carrying my Ipod....now if I only had those headphones.

Do I like it, well its a bit too early to tell, it feels just a bit too large right now. Certainly does a lot, I like the interface but it isn't as intuitive as the iPhone. Love having the keyboard and the screen is really nice.

Have you actually had an 8Gig working in this phone?

Have you tried swiping your finger across the screen in the mp3 mode to skip tracks?

The BOSE headphones are meant to be the monkeys nuts you must get them (given they are free.) Regift them at the very least.

I've had this phone a few days and although a novelty with the touchscreen and sleek looking, it really doesn't appear to have been road tested properly. I like the phone, i won't be sending it back, but i'll be hoping for a firmware upgrade soon.

The F700 lacks an intuitive menu structure, it takes too many key strokes to get to anything on this phone. To select a text message and call that person takes 7 key presses...

Although the QWERTY keypad helps a lot with typing and web navigation, i have to use it when the touchscreen doesn't offer what i would think would be necessary. It's not a novelty, it is integral to using the phone, so you'll be popping it open a lot more often than you may imagine.

The front menu gives you 3 ways to make a phone call, 1. the menu page in order to navigate to contacts, 2. a key pad to dial a number, 3. a standard selection of made/received/missed calls. Hitting a contacts list and dial would be easier.

The contacts list itself has no keypad so you must pull out the querty in order to type a name, or wait ages to scroll through the randomly sensitive/sluggish scroll menu.

Short cut keys simply shortcut to a specific page in an application structure. you can't then move up or down in a directory for example, only go back to the main menu and then navigate your way back into where you really want to be.( eg. shortcut to the music player takes you to the play screen. to change track, you have to quit back to the main menu and then navigate through all the menu pages to select a new music folder, then play the track. this page is only one step away from the original shortcut)

The music player is hugely underdeveloped. Tracks are listed and played alphabeticaly, not in track order, there are no track skip buttons - using the skip 'slide finger over the screen' function rarely works and generally fast forwards the track or alters the volume. This needs an obvious next/play/pause/stop menu system. Selecting the 'play in background' function allows you to navigate through the phone without turning off the music playback. a small window appears at the bottom of the screen which is great until you actually want to get rid of it.

Importing numbers and contacts was a problem. The file system appears to be incompatible with outlook and the numbers on my SIM stored on a Sony Ericcson were stored 'lastnamefirstname/1' which meant all 160 odd had to be manually edited.

Setting up the phone there are a number of configurable options but again you need time and patience to find out where they are, the manual is pretty bad for pointing you in the right direction. For example, the phone comes with a default setting that makes the phone beep and vibrate for EVERY button press. EVERY PRESS? why? annoying and took a fair amount of searching to discover how to turn it off.

The camera simlpy isn't that good. outside with a steady hand you'll get a useable shot, but inside, or in the pub, you're going to have to work hard to not get a blurry shot. The zoom is dependant on chosen image resolution/size, if you go for maximum image size/resolution, you get no zoom. choose a smaller image size and then you can zoom. cheap trick, but a standard trick.

Viewing the picture... Again, 5 presses to get a picture up on screen, and then another to get a really useful scrolly preview pane. I like this scrolly pane, but as soon as you select your image, it automatically dissapears. you have to manually open it everytime. why can't it stay until you close it?

Games are all demos. not too bothered myself.

Internet is easy to use, straight forward and looks pretty good.

The phone is just not straight forward. It should be.

as they nicked it from me on saturday night. now vodafone are claiming i don't have insurance to replace it. This phone and this provider have proved to be possibly the worst pre-sales / post sales experience i have ever had. amazing really. and now i'm locked in to a 12 month contract.
