I've got my Vario II conected up to my local wireless network.

If I have the wireless network interface set to "The Internet" then I can connect to the internet, but I can't connect to any of my local shares.

If I have the wireless network interface set to "Work" then I can access my local shares through the file explorer (\\myPC\myshare) but I can't use the internet.

Is there any way around this problem? This whole thing with different network types seems to be rubbish - or at least very confusing. What's wrong with just having a normal network connection?

Yes, it is.

When the wi-fi is set to "the internet" it connects to my local network and I can browse the internet through my home broadband, but I cannot access any local shares on my local PCs.

When the wi-fi is set to "Work" it connects to my local network and I can access my local shares, but when I try and access the outside world the phone attempts to establish a 3G connection even though the wi-fi is still connected.
