Just had a call from Satellite Direct, or something similar telling me I could save some money to cover my one sky system, shame I have two. They asked for my mum first, which is weird as I deal with all the sky. When I asked about Domestic and General he started rambling on and then hung up!

I have been contacted 3 times in the past 24 hours by people enquring whether my Sky system is working correctly.

On the first occasion last night they asked for my partner (she hasn't had a Sky system at this address in her name for at least 5 years now) and on the second occasion this morning when they asked about Sky I just put the phone down, and the same person rang again about 5 minutes later.

Is there anybody at Sky we can speak to about these. I'm 99.9% certain it isn't Sky doing this, but it must be more than a coincidence that these calls start the week my 12 month warranty on my HD box runs out!

Nationwide Satellite Services phoned me today - but I was not home from work.

They've not phoned back yet....

On googling their number 08007797444 I find it is also the number for Elite Sky Repairs - they've phoned me before!!! I know - because I posted in this forum!!!

Just had a call from a girl saying she was from Sky Protect reminding me that I had received my HD Box last April (which I self installed) and offering to extend the warranty for 12 months then payments would start. She told me what package I had and would have told me my customer number but I no means of checking it where I am. But she wanted my bank details. The phone number was 0800 1218150.

I asked her to ring back tomorrow or Monday (so that I could check here ).

It seemed genuine and I will probably take it up unless anyone tells me different.

NEVER give your bank details to anyone who rings and asks for it, if you really want to take out Sky Protect, then ring Sky yourself and arrange it.

Thanks, you are perfectly correct. I've just rung Sky Protect, they are NOT offering this deal and it is not a Sky number.

A correction to my previous posts. Having looked at my Caller ID display again I see that the number is actually 00800 1218150.

I Googled it and came to this website
http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/008001218150
which has rather mixed messages as to whether it is D&G.

I will ask for them to send me a form, IF they ring back again. I will not give details over the phone.

An update.

Much to my surprise they did ring me back on Monday but I was out. Then at 4pm on the dot on Tuesday a man rang. To cut a long story short, he said he would send me details but still only take details over the phone.

I'm not going to but, just perhaps, I might some documentary evidence but probably not.

We had a call over the weekend - recognized the symptoms even before the guy tried to start his spiel. Told him firmly that I did not need an extended warrantee and put the phone down.

Nothing since!

Just got call via an 0207 number from someone called Satellite Maintenance Services.

Now, for better or worse, I haven't had a warranty on any of my boxes beyond the standard 12 months. I probably been lucky not to have too many repair bills down the years.

So, when the 'person' on the other end of the line couldn't tell us what my present equipment was. Three times he kept telling us that I only had a Sky+ box - I felt obliged to put the phone down.

But he phoned back, first to comment on my rudeness, then to tell about how he could cut our warranty costs.

Put the phone down on him - again.

As far I am concerned, all warranty goes through Sky - with their Sky Protect service - and you approach them, not the other way round.

Should these companies be reported to the OFT?!

I don't know where you got that idea from?, but Sky Protect is run by Domestic & General Insurance, the leading extended warranty company (and possibly the first?)

Well, I did get a new box recently.....and my old box also went belly up.

But, I suppose that yet another story In fact, its another thread

What has to considered is that these clowns have information about what you have installed that is well out of date in a lot of cases.

If it was Sky themselves phoning, they should be able to tell what you have installed - they hold that info on your account.

Satellite Maintenance Services, as they called themselves on that particular occasion, could only tell me I have a 'Sky Plus' box, and I wasn't going to make it easy for them by telling them what I now have. For all they know, I might have left Sky.

I've had a few calls since from different named companies, two of which couldn't even tell me what equipment I had installed. One called the other day and my wife answered. She asked them to phone back later to talk to me - they didn't call back.

Just a blazing row with some bloke 'claiming' to be from Sky TV to tell me warranty had expired. Asked him who his company was and he wouldn't tell me but asked me why I wanted to know!!! I told him that would need to know if he was going to sell me something and he said that he wasn't trying to sell me something but merely tell me my warranty had expired!!! I would have put the phone down but the same company rang about an hour ago and I'd put the phone down on him.

Is there any way these tossers can be stopped?

Try the T.P.S. service, if you are with Virgin (BT do have something similar) ask for Anonomous Caller Reject, so if they call with out transmitting their number they don't get through
and if they do you have their number call them back and tell 'em off.

Am getting a lot of these jokers lately - latest being Smart-Sat Maintenance who seemed to think I have a sky+ box which I dont

Annoying things is that our number is registered under the telephone preference and when i told the one a month or so back, they replied "so?"

Must have been the same tossers that phoned me twice, when they didn't take the hint.

I waiting for one of them to phone me again, so I can say 'What's my account number?!' - on Sky's comments about these warranty calls this is one question that should stump most of them.

I expect they'd come back with something about data protection, or some other bull to cover up for not knowing. But asking the question says to them 'No, it doesn't work like that'.

Just out of curiosity, it wasn't a Spanish number (starting +34 or 0034).

Had a call with a Spanish number asking for my wife - she is still the main account holder. I asked them to state their business......silence.....asked again.....silence...put the phone down.

Ive had Digi Support UK ring last night and the girl was quite condescending. When I told her the number was registered with the TPS she sneered "well THAT hasnt worked has it! bye!"

When i rang their switchboard to complain (the number on 1471 was the girls answerphone 01293 453522) they denied it was them who had rang but said that they had their numbers from "Approved Index" and gave me their number (who have never heard of Digi Support and do 'not have a category for sky warranties on their system')

Incidentally their wording was "your sky warranty is about to expire, if i can take a few details we can get it set back up for you"

I received a call a couple of weeks ago from an outfit mentioning Sky when I was occupied watching the last test Match on TV so didn't catch the name or ask him to repeat it. He then proceeded to list the equipment I have (correctly) my home phone number (correctly) and the bank from which my direct debits for Sky and Sky Protect are taken (correctly). When he mentioned Sky warranty my ears pricked up but he then proceeded to say it is nothing to do with Sky and started to tell me about an investment opportunity. I interrupted and asked him what his company was again and how had he got hold of details only known to me, Sky and Sky Protect. He put the phone down. Regrettably I didn't check 1471.
Yesterday I received a call from Alex from National Satellite Services on extension 302 on 0800 779 7444. He confirmed the equipment I have and told me I was currently paying £9.50 a month for a Sky warranty and that he had good news for me and even better news for me. The good news was that I had been upgraded to the next level of cover and rattled off what that was which seemed exactly the same as I already have. The better news was that the cost of this would £7.50 per month but payable quarterly for £23.50. He then said I would receive all the details in the post today. However, just to ensure the transfer to the new level went smoothly, I should cancel my current direct debit immediately which set the alarm bells ringing. I asked would the information I would receive have a new direct debit but he said it wouldn't as they did not use direct debits (bells ringing louder now) but instead a new system something like EPC (pretty garbled and I'd never heard of it) which "only" required me to give him my credit or debit card number and the 3 digit number on the back. "Oh, that's what you said the new system was called is it?" "Yes, Sir." The code is actually CSC or CVD or CVV or other similar abbreviation but nothing like the "new system NAME" he had mumbled to me. Fully alert now I replied that I would prefer to have the pack of information about the upgrade and then contact him if I liked what I read, thinking that IF it came I would have some hard evidence of what by then I was convinced was a well known scam. OK was his reluctant reply. Needless to say I've received no information and don't expect to do so.
I phoned Sky Protect today to order a new RC to replace my HD one which had stopped working and also reported this approach. The guy there asked me would I like to speak to a senior manager there so they could get the full information. I agreed and I'm expecting a call tomorrow.
I am also going to EmailSky as requested at the head of this topic and as well as reporting the incidents asking how these two, as far as I know, 3rd parties have quoted what I consider to be both privately and commercially confidential between me and them.
I'll post back with the further outcomes of this, if any.

Just had a call from "Satellite and Home Care"

As soon as the said that I told them I didn't want a warranty and not to call me again.

I assume they were going to offer me a warranty!
