I want to buy the above and it comes with the walkman player is this the same as an mp3 player

Yes it's an MP3 player. "Walkman" is just a brand of MP3 player, like Sony Ericsson is a brand of mobile phone.

The "W" in W850, W200 etc. stands for Walkman, as said above its Sony's ™ for Music players. It used to be the compact cassette player then as technology moved on its ended up as the MP3 player.
