They used to make computer printers too, dunno if they still do. Mine blew it's circuit board about 2 weeks after it was out of warranty.

They also make the Amstrad emailer phone, which no-one but Sir Alan appears to use!

Yup, Pretty much!
My old school bought a load of Viglen computers and a server a few years ago. Last year, in the middle of coursework season it blew up!

When I was at school we used to laugh our heads off at Amstrad stereos!!
Cheap music centers sold in Woolies!

My friend made a great point the other day. He said if SAS was so good he would be up with Bill Gates nowdays. SAS was at the pinnicle of computing but obviously fell way, way short!
A sucessful business?? Hmmmm?!

he himself admits that's he's a "gimme the money!" sorta guy; chasing the fast buck rather than long term strategy. might go a long way to explaining his suspicion of MBAs and the like; all this benchmarking and corporate thinking doesn't really fit in with his way of operating.

When Donald Trump's US 'The Apprentice' was in it's heyday he started fishing for European rights packages at the same time Richard Branson had just been signed for a rival US network/show.

So the self-publicist (books) that is SAS stepped into the void...
He's more Mike Baldwin than Donald Trump, but I think that makes it a bit edgier and more accessable.

It doesn't have the same 'bling' factor as the NYC/Hollywood shows, but thats just the UK's media culture V California's

However, if SAS thought that another season was too much for him.. SRB's would keep Mr Trump's franchise dollars afloat for me if he wasn't worn out already!

Amstrad made it's name (and money) by cornering the 'affordable' end of the electronic equipment market.

The early eighties saw a rise in consumer electronics but at prices that were out of reach of many. Amstrad took the opportunity to produce cheap and cheerfull tat that anyone could afford.

As far as I know they still do.
