She's earning £90k, Under Sir Alan she'd earn the same amount. How much could childcare possibly cost, and how could a potential manager of a large company possibly be so stupid as to only worry about it at make-or-break time??

And the Oscar goes tooooo.....Katie!

Don't tell me she never thought she'd have to move to take the job!

She wanted to win the competition but not have the job...lucky escape for SAS I say

I want to suggest a radical view. I believe, and have done for a few weeks, that she was a plant. A mole if you like.

Only tonight did it become evident that it was for the benefit of the other applicants, rather than the audience.

Her actions, her confidence and the end portion of tonights show screamed pre-arranged, and acted.

It was good but the US Apprentice had a guy start crying after being fired and Trump called him round to his side of the table and gave him a hand shake.. a really powerful moment.

^ Chris? Blech, he was out of his depth anyway...

Also, I didn't find it moving at all...

for someone who claimed to be so intelligent that was a dumb thing to do. why apply for a job without finding out it would involve a relocation?

She was probably on more money that the guy interviewing her!

Having watched the series so far and seen the interviews are we to believe that siralan would employ Katie over Simon or Kristinna?

Even if he thought that Katie was in it for "something else" he didnt know if she would back down when cornered.

Very very bizarre

Yep - Sir Alan came over as far too clever - seemed staged to me.

I agree - she had a disproportionate number of talking head camera shots. A plant.

Sorry - but why would anyone volunteer to become a national hate figure. The BBC must be paying her a lot of money if that's the case.

Just don't buy the plant argument - the Beeb isn't MI5!

Regardless of whether it was staged we ALL knew she didn't want the job, just the fame attached

I never believed the "Katie's a plant" theory until that moment...

She wasn't a completely evil bitch the whole way through to give up in that one moment and pretend she actually had a heart. I'm disappointed

Well, she still might not be a plant but I wouldn't cross out the possibility neither.

She was good TV though, planted or not.

But she could have won the competition - as shown she saves him rather than he saves himself.

I suppose as Katie's latest job at Met Office Consulting is based in Exeter, she was possibly telling the truth.

I sitll think that with all her planned ad libs and one liners, she is after a media career, either as a panellist or interview subject to start with, and then who knows?

She didn't ever want siralan's job in my view.

I doubt she was a plant, all sides had too much to lose if ever it was exposed. That said I do think there is more to the exposer than meets the eye. It appears to be a "win win" situation, Katie knew she was good enough to have reached the final and Alan is clever enough to work out she was a time waster. Since when has having to move to London been of significance? I think it was constructed in order for no one to lose face, that said Katie did not come out of it very well

Perhaps Sir Alan had already decided the winner so whoever was in the final alongside did not matter that much to him.

Certainly seemed a fake scenario to me, given away by Sir Alan's lack of ability to act rather than Katie.

Are we really expected to believe that Katie wouldn't have discussed the possibility of moving with her family beforehand - especially given her confidence in winning it?

Why it all happended not sure we'll ever know - was she a mole from the off? Did Tim and Michelle Dewberry's departures from Amstrad happen halfway through the series and Sir Alan realised he couldn't have someone else win and then leave his company within months so a deal was struck with Katie to say she got to the final if she quit before the show's end?

I don't think we saw the whole story in the boardroom. A lot was edited out. I read somewhere that Sir Alan told them that the two finalists had to work for him for 6 months before he made his final discision. Been told that would Katie really want to take that risk. Or maybe the winner had to sign a contract committing themselves to Sir Alan's company for a number of years.

Maybe this put Katie off going any further.

I don't buy this "can't move my family to London" excuse. I think that she was kicked off the programme for another reason. Maybe SAS found out something in her private life that impacted upon her staying in the competition. Also wondered if the "I resign" scenes were actually filmed whilst Simon and Kristina were present?

Tim was there for two years wasn't he? They are only ever offered a one year contract so that can't be said to be a failure.

Utterly, totally correct. As soon as I saw last night's episode, this struck me too.

The whole timing of the Lohit goes, she goes through, then all of a sudden, out of the blue SAS goes back to her.. wtf? Seems very choreographed to me.

I think she was the plant, the pantomime villain. The stuff she came out with, being negative about everyone, really extreme comments. No-one who wants to win the show would be that scathing about so many people.

If she isn't a plant, and I think she is, then what planetnokia put:

....may well be closer to the truth. She was told to leave.

I heard a clip of her on the radio this morning and she said that she had already won the apprentice just by getting to the final! This seems really odd as she never won anything and then left.
I am glad she is not in the final - dont think my voice could take another week of me shouting at the TV and the swearing that comes out of my mouth when she starts going on one is something to be ashamed off!!

She probably found out Sir Alan has a Northern office and that quickly changed her mind!
