I certainly got the distinct impression that he knew if he offered her the job she wouldn't have taken it and so was pressurising her to step out.
Good tv? certainly Staged ... maybe! |

Was that just me? Didn't she say her parents had already said they had talked about moving then decided that wasn't quite the case. Caught out in a lie. Carl |

Alan did know, I know someone who worked on the interviews ep and he told me that off camera Katie let it slip to one of the producers that if she was offered the job she wouldnt take it. At that point they were asked to reshoot
So basically he would have known this was coming. |

I never trust these sort of shows and I am sure it was not preplanned, she wanted to do that there, but the number of rerecordings done for that 'scene' was v.clearly scripted!
Same has happened before in the show when I thought Tre was going to be fired and he goes to say it "Tre, you're.... hangin in by tenderhooks!" This series for me was good tv, more than the actual job and they were great characters. I thought Katie played for the show and was a great character and actually wondered if she said her piece at the end about her parents because it was the truth.... or was it to get out of the finale and the aspect of this being a game to her! |

She maybe didn't know he knew she didn't want the job. I suppose that is why he offered her a place in the final and then went over to Tre to give her time to think out how bad she would look if she took a place that belnged to someone else. Either that or she reckoned it was better to walk away rather than gift Simon or Kristina the job and look like a loser in the final. |

If it was preplanned she must be the best actress in the world. I've never seen someone being able to fake the blushing that was happening on her face whilst all that was going on.
I think Sir Alan is just a shrewd operator and is able to winkle out the insincere or uncommitted. |

It certainly seemed staged. Especially as Simon and Kristina were conveniently left at the end.
However, either way it made for great TV! This was probably the best moment of this series so far. |

Thinking about it, pre-planning is the only thing that makes sense as it did come across as very staged.
I wish they had just chucked her out ignominiously via the back door when they found out, instead of pandering to her obvious desire for a media career. It completely undermined the other two's moment of victory and I thought it was the low point of the whole series so far. |

I also found it staged the way Sir Alan told her she was safe, then there was that weird moment when she just didn't react....and a minute or so later he asked her what was wrong. It just didn't ring true. The whole thing seems staged to me. |

I'm glad she resigned. She'll have a far better life in her 90k a year job than one given to her by Sir Alan, if the one that last year's winner got is anything to go by anyway.

My mind is split
Power of editing can be very powerfull and it is possible that Katie really did just take a step back and really assess the situation Still on the other side it could of been planned but i actually think more planned by the bbc/ the apprentice rather than only katie I just don't see katie giving up that job just for 15 mins of fame in the boardroom |

Did anyone think the whole white suit/black suit a bit odd though?
To me, the fact that she was wearing a black suit was a clear signal...that either she had no intention of being booted out (ie trying to unnerve her companions) or that she had plans to leave of her own accord... ..intriguing. |

If I remember rightly there was talk on this several weeks ago as it was revealed in the open that there was a problem in the semi final.
And that they had to do some re-editing. Which makes sense and in fact some of the scenes with "Your fired" would probably have been re-shot if need be. Though when you re-shoot something second time it's either better or worst. Though I thought the final was going to be live at the end with Sir Alan like they did with Apprentice with Martha Stewart ( I loved that one) , but It does not appear to be Which is a shame, as it would have kept the secrecy until the final moment. |

It did seem a bit like something from filmed drama where Sir Alan is talking to Simon but the camera is fixed on Katie 'acting' like she's anxious and unsure of herself, that bit appeared a bit exagerrated. That bit seemed odd because Katie has always managed to carry herself with supreme confidence at all times, but here she's suddenly a different person altogether. And then Sir Alan suddenly becomes a body language expert and somehow guesses that Katie wants to stand down. It was all just a little too perfect. All felt a bit like a fictional drama in a way. |

What kind of idiot goes forward for this without even tentativley discussing such arrangements?
Didn't she say her parents had already said they had talked about moving then decided that wasn't quite the case. Caught out in a lie. Carl He asked the question to see if she was serious about the job. The response showed she had been working on the problem of where to live - which is positive and is all you could expect. There is no lie. There was then a logic in letting her go through if you thought she was in the top 2. SAS's response then made no sense as he said he was still worried which was contrary to all the evidence he and his interviewers officially had from katie talking about her children and work. What else was he worried by and why were teh interviewers asking the questions - they didn't find any other high flying apprentice candidate inexplicable. Even if he thought it he shouldn't have said that just because she was a single mother. The point about her salary made no sense either as Michelle had been on 10k more last year. He was raising doubts that came from nowhere we saw about her decision. The only effect was to make her say that she was really a contender - which harps back to when he asked her if she was honest before. She then is asked about it again when she needn't have said anything at all and her reply suggested she couldn't commit on the issue. The question is why admit it when you are in the final and when you don't like Simon or Krristina. if the plan is to win you go on to win. If you want the job you find a solution. If you don't find a solution you resign. if you were always going to turn down the job you turn it down. His position looked odd - he had doubts but let her through. If he was testing her and relying on her to back out rather than lie why take the risk she would lie? She would look worse if she did the opposite later but he would look a sucker. Two explanations (probably of many) occur. One is that we saw is what we got and it only happens that way if Katie honestly hasn't worked out her home life options or she decides she can't betray him for whatever reason. She backs out. He raised the issue and she took the moral option and backed out now rather than later. The perm of this would be if she didn't expect to get through and hadn't thought it through or changed her mind towards wanting or not wanting the job when she thought about it. The other one is that Katie wasn't going to take the job. SAS knew this. He couldn't sack her for that without looking a fool ("No one makes a fool out of me") She is one of his best candidates and would want to be portrayed that way. The best solution then is to let her through but for her then to back down on another issue. The problem with that one though is why doesn't he just fire her for some other reason and why let the show end with the third and second rated candidates looking second choice for the final. If it is re-edited and set up the problem why set it up that way? If he is afraid of looking a sucker why let her end it herself and then point out himself she wasn't committed and he hadn't picked it up before and had let her through to teh final. ? Any Sherlock Holmes apprentices out there? |
