No mate, I don't think they will be selling a satellite for £50. The superpowers spend billions sending them up into space and they are not about to sell them off for £50.

Satellite dishes maybe, but not satellites

What a stupid typo. I meant satellite dish. Anyone seen this offer?

Where would I need to place the dish to get a good signal?

Sounds like a good price - depends if the receiver is any good... cheap recievers are about £30-£40 so the one in this set would not be that good.

You can use the kit in France with no problems (provided the power can be sorted).

The Maplin site says this:
The satellite dish must point accurately at the receiving satellite and have clear line-of-sight, no trees or buildings in the way. As this dish is quite small, it needs to point more precisely than larger dishes, be sure to align with a signal strength meter or satellite bleeper.
I'm afraid you have to know what you are doing to 'tune' into a satellite - a satellite finder is a must along with a compass and knowledge of where the various satellite co-ordinates are would be extremely useful!

Forgive my ignorance but would I be able to tune this in to Astra 2D to receive the BBC freeview channels?

It doesn't mention 2D does it?

I would be interested to know what UK channels I would receive if I took it to France. Also, if I use a UK to Euro plug adaptor would this work OK. Also, what size is the dish?

If I get enough positive views, I'll be straight down the Aldi on Sunday to buy it (it is only a five minute walk from my house)

The Maplins one is £79.99, it's the B-grade (i.e. used, returned, cosmetic fault) version that is £49.99.

Yes, point it at the Astra 2D satellite and search the right transponders...
