As a band that will have a minor bit of success for about 9 months, they're fine... But the truth is, after their success they will become another band that most people will struggle to remember. Why? Because there isn't one great thing about them... Be it the songs, their playing, their performing, their personalities. ”

Time will tell of course. Personally from what i've read and talked to people in the industry about, it wouldn't surprise me to see them sticking around for a few years yet - the plan apparently is to slow-burn this album and release a filler single for Christmas before going for a more 'mature' second album around this time 2004. I don't doubt that they have the personality (which you have to admit is pretty strong, even in the identikit boyband "match of personalities" way. They're cheeky enough, they're intelligent enough, just not exactly controversial). According to the press releases and stuff they all play the guitar proficiently (i expect that to mean garage band proficiency) and Charlie drums pretty well. The main problem for the image makers is that Charlie is the obvious focal point of the band, so it would take something pretty special to put him on drums AND give him the camera time.

Plus, that very same one once cut me up in HMV in Oxford Street. ”

So we aren't so objective, are we?

Hey, don't worry. I feel the same about Damon Albarn. So don't ask me about Blur post-1996

Just throwing this into the thread FastEddie, I spose u have heard of MeFirst & The Gimme Gimmes and am curious about your views on them?

I think they are one of the bands who play for 'pure fun', a few good mates gettin together to play some music. (Plus they do a great job of making some clasic songs sound totaly listinable!!!!!

Apariently, you can get them to play ya uni ball or special party (They only play venues in the US god damm it! ) So tempted to e-mail them and persuade them to pop over to Blighty and come round to my joint and play a set for me and my mates!

“Not sure about FWC (although didn't Mike sell out to Warner Music, or at least give them a significant interest in the company, i don't remember)...”

Also, I dont think The Fat One had anything to do with Warner. He is always goin on about staying away from all those kinda guys. I know that his missus runs Fat Wreck Chords for him. (Wonder if they will gimme some work experience there )

Well, so much for the interesting and thought-provoking debate that once ruled this thread.

Now i am a massive mark for the 50's doo-wop sound and these guys do some WICKED covers of stuff like that - i first got into them having heard Blink's cover of Dead Man's Curve, and a friend recommended MeFirst & The Gimme Gimmes.

In the end, they're a novelty band, doing what they enjoy, and i respect that. Of course, the fact they cover classics means that they will shift units, but as long as you don't take them seriously they're great fun.
