Im on o2 contract now and only had them 5 days, and im really pissed , i at to ring them up today because of a problem with my tarrif ,which im surposed to get 500mins offpeak 500 text ,500 wap a month. The only number that i could phone up was the 0906 number charged at 50p a minute, when some one picked up it took them 5mins to get into there system? she said the computer was slow? for this price it whats to be fast !!! the problem was they were charging me for text in the day time and wap when it should have been free. After spending 10 mins on the phone she said that all my tariff was offpeak and because i used it in the daytime thats why i was getting charged,so she said if i wasnt happy to contact the customer service on 0870 and return the phone. So i phoned them up and when i asked to cancel the contract ,he asked why i was cancelling it, i explained everything to him and he said that it is free text and wap all day, so he said get back in touch with the billing department and tell them to sort it out, so i phoned them back up and spent another 15mins having a arguement with them telling them that i was just told it was free and they said no it is not free and she double checked, she said ring customer services back up if u wish to cancel,so i rang back up and they said it is free ? who the hell do i believe? anyway sorry for going on a bit but now im that pissed off i am now sending it back, if i do get another contract i will go with orange,at least there customer services is free....

Are you on an "online" O2 tariff? If you are on one of the Online tariffs you get more voice/texts/wap minutes per month but you are supposed to use the online eCare system for support and if you want to phone them you have to pay premium rates...

If you are on a high street (o2 shop, cpw etc) tariff you should only have to pay national rate.

Yes im on online 02 tariff and yes u do have to pay 50p a mintute to talk to them, the 0870 number that used to be is no longer, i will just stick with pay as u go its less hassle, its really got me down trying to sort it out, like today i at to ring up for someone to pick the phone up, and they asked why i was cancelling, so they got me to stay by telling me i could change my phone to a better one but i would have to ring the 0906 number, when i got though to them they said its nothing to do with them , customer service deals with exchanges,so i rang them back up and he set every thing up for the phone to go back so i could choose another phone and guess what? he said it would take up to 14 days for the phone to be credited and i would have to take out another contract with them to get a different phone...So im not bothing now fu*k them..infact its put me right off contract phones..

O2's Customer services (that you ring) are rubbish they lie to you and say anything.
O2's email support however is superb, thye have always been helpful and the response is usually pretty fast.

How do you know you are being charged for you texts and WAP? Because it shows up on your online bill?
The thing is it does show up that you are being charged on your unbilled details, but at the end of the month they work out what calls and texts and wap you shouldn't be charged for and then discount this off the bill.
So it might be infact that you are not being charged at all, and that you are just viewing your unbilled details.

It is v. annoying when you ring up at 50p a minute and have to hold for ages. i recently lost my phone and had to wait for 1 hour to get through to cancel, this is not acceptable in my opinion.

You should be able to ring the National line to use most customer services though.

Hope this helps

I am on the same tariff as you. As you mention you have only been on the contract for 5 days, I assume you have checked your bill online and seen that you are being charged for WAP and text. Your free allowances are taken off at the end of the month when your statement is sent, they will be shown as chargeable items up until then. It says this on the top of the Unbilled Usage page of your online statement.

Thanks guys for all your help, i now understand all the billing, its just that when i did ask at the billing department about it, i was told that the wap and the text was not free in the day time and only offpeak, now that i have been told different from all off u on the same tariff that it is free i feel better now, wish i never looked at the online billing now cos its cost me a fortune ringing the 50p a min rate up, i wont be ringing that up again, they need to restart the 0870 number that they used to have, just money grabbers...Cheers guys!!!

Ive had O2 online contract for 15months now (back in the days of BT Genie and BT Cellnet).
Ive never once had the need to phone them up. I have no problems with my phone. 600 free text messages/month and free wap and the usual is great for £20 a month

I dont know to be honnest, ive never enquired about getting upgrades. My phone was free (nokia 3330 which was the best free contract phone at the time), i guess its mine now after 12 months, but as i said ive never enquired about it, proabably because the contract seems to fit my needs perfectly (tho calls to other network mobile phones could be cheaper)

1st..You keep your old phone, and simply swap the sim card over to the new one.
I upgraded from a 3330 to a 3510.
However, you're then locked to another 12 month contract.

2nd..It's you, not u.
(sorry, but I bloody hate txt speak......no excuse for it when there is a full keybard in front of you.)

If you are changing network and returning the phone then, both Orange and T-Mobile do not charge you to talk to customer services.

You were on an off peak tarrif.

If you go on T-Mobile there are 2 good ones out there for offpeak users.

£13.99 for 12.5 hours (750 mins) a month off peak, + 50 text messages (which can be used during the day). WAP comes out of your free minutes but off peak only.

or if you are going to be calling other networks a lot

£15 for 200 mins (3 hours 20 mins) off peak which can be used to any network.

Plus its always been free to listen to Voice Mail.

Your online bill viewing is normally updates very quickly (as in with in 1 hour of you making the call, plus you can find out how many free minutes + you call charges since your last bill off your phone.

T-Mobile are suppost to have the best contract customer service out of the networks, and the second best pay as you go customer service.

If you prefer Orange, you could always choose one of those tarrifs above if they appeal to you using the OVP.

OK, how about this for a reason to be pissed off with O2..

Yesterday morning I received a bill through the door..
for a mobile I don't have..
when I've never had a mobile from O2 (or Cellnet etc)..
yet the bill had my full name and address!

After ringing them up (You don't recognise the number? No. The account has been set up since 1997 - have you never had a bill before? No. Don't worry - there is a DD set up which is payed by a Mr.X - do you know him? No. Have you ever had a phone with us? No. etc.) they checked back on the account to see where previous bills had gone.
It appears that Mr. X lives a few houses along the street (i.e. same postcode), and the only reason they could give was they had a "known computer problem earlier this month".

If you are expecting a bill from O2 I'd keep an eye out - it may land with one of your neighbours..
