Without sounding like a snotty pedant, I just have to point out that the show that follows the Apprentice is called:

'The Apprentice: You're Fired'.

NOT:

'The Apprentice Your Fired'

as some people have renamed it.

Yes, yes, pedantic, but it needs to be said. It's a mistake made an alarming amount on this forum.

I agree completely

It also bugs me when people put "to" instead of "too" and "too" instead of "to"

Oh and "its" instead of "it's", think I'll stop there lol i could go on all night

How about these persistent errors:

"loose" instead of "lose"

"ect" instead of "etc"

"could of" instead of "could've"

I don't know what they teach in schools these days, but judging by the standard of writing in the majority of forum posts they don't seem to cover the English language.

That one definitely bugs me too

You're definitely not alone. The amount of people who post on these forums that just don't understand basic things like this always amazes me.

There is a pedants forum on General Discussions.

I would consider ect to be a typo rather than a grammatical error.

What annoys me most is when you see a sign saying something like...

"APPLE'S £1"

Unless they are talking about the pocket money belonging to the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow.

I disagree about ect. A typo is a random slip of the keys but people choose to write ect time and time again, often repeatedly in the same post.

I think it probably comes from the way they say it (eck cetra), having never seen it written down (et cetera).

Similarly they've probably never seen ‘could have’ (or could've) written down so they write to the nearest equivalent pronunciation (could of).

Now that ‘ask’ is being increasingly pronounced as ‘arks’ by younger people in the south of England it’s only a matter of time until we see it in written form in web forums like this.

I must have a look at the pedants thread!

I saw another really stupid error on ITV Nightscreen this morning.
While giving information about an episode of Emmerdale, they informed us that one of the characters with mental health issue was going to go for "councilling".
Nothing more needs to be said, does it?

What about when people say "Nuke-u-lar" instead of "Nuclear"? Even some newsreaders do this, and I think George Bush does it too. What's going on there? It's not just pronouncing it wrongly, it's actually rearranging the order of the letters. Weird.

Yes. If you're making this kind of basic error, it's in your best interests to do something about it.

Actually that should be "could have", contractions are technically wrong when written apart from in speech.
