I see it is £449 in Argos and was just wondering what sort of make Hitachi is and if this is good value.

Hitachi are considered a cheap 'manufacturer', this set is almost certainly just a cheap Vestel set with an Hitachi badge! - it's been many years (decades?) since Hitachi were considered a decent brand.

Yep, you're right, Vestel.

The Goodmans 32" with Freeview at Comet is the same price, same manufacturer and much better looking!

Oh, and got a good review in What Video (IIRC) magazine!

So didn't the Hitachi get an identical review?, as it's the same set - or perhaps Hitachi don't have as large a budget for influencing reviews?

Ive had this set since december 06 and love it, my girlfriend was also so impressed she brought one. Picture quality is superb imho, get it on their 16 day return policy and see for yourself.

If you do try these settings:-

contrast 63
Brightness 47
Sharpness 31
Colour 40
Colour Temp cool
Film mode on
3D comb on

My older brother (who lives down south!) has had lots of trouble with his Hitachi/Vestel, with the set being replaced many times, and eventually being given a refund.

Sorry to hear he had so much bad luck , but eventually got sorted out. To be fair though this happens with all products at all prices and is not just isolated to one particular brand!

I have personally had a good experience with this model, and hence am very positive about sharing it. Like I said Argos do a 16 day returns policy so any prospective buyers should try for themselves rather than just relying on expert/user opinions.

I still think £449.99 for this set complete with 3 years warranty and 9 months interest credit if required is a cracking deal! it also comes complete with wall mounting kit included in price!!


Finally Hitachi are not the first to share components on a production line and wont be the last, and would add I have no connection with Argos or hitachi, just a satified consumer.

Argos no longer do the 16 day return, they do a 30 day return, but the goods must be "Unused" this is of course open to interpretation. they may have tightend up on the automatic refund policy. make sure first.

yes but for another £70 you could get a Panny, not with 3yr Gtee, but under the "Sale of Goods" act you shouldnt really need extended warranties.

Its true the more you spend the better you get, but if you could take off the cost of the 3 yr warranty, wall mounting brackets etc, it is more or less in mirai/hannspree/teco territory. To me that makes it a good buy.

With regard to the Sale of goods act, I thought that only applied during the statutory 1 yr guarantee period?
