They are very scared - they are worried that if they blink the statues will get them - anyone else have this problem

This is how it is supposed to make you feel. Just like the older ones. My first watching of Doctor Who was of the non-canon Cushing movies, as a child in the hiatus. Healthy scare didn't do me any bad.

My friend's daughter, who is now 10, absolutely loves Dr Who. However, she will still not watch 'The Empty Child' from Series1 as it gave her nightmares for 3 weeks afterwards. She hasn't seen it now for 2 years and she still won't watch that episode. She mentions it now and then so it obviously had a real impact on her. Bless her. Perhaps you are going to have to ban your children from ever watching 'Blink' again.

I read the warnings on the BBC site before hand and I am not sure if they did anything before the show, I was not listening, but this was meant to be the most scary episode and there were recommendations for parents to watch before hand and maybe watch the next day with children in the light way before bed time.
I think this may have been the desired effect....

I'm sure that there will be some stupid crap about it being too scary coming out.
This was the closest to a behind the sofa moment theres been in the new version. And about time too.
No doubt someone with nothing better to do working for some nonsense organization will feel its bad for children.
But the generation that talks about watching Dr Who from behind the sofa don't talk about it in an "oh my god that scarred me for life" way.
Its in an affectionate and nostalgic way.
Let the children today have the same to look back on.

Older relatives of mine used to talk about how scary Doctor Who was in the 70s when they were growing up.

I have watched since the new series began with Chris E. But it wasn't until tonight's episode that I got scared. I wish every episode was this scary.

Yep, my 9 year old daughters scared stiff-just got her back to bed at 12.30! She couldn't sleep.

I thought I was the only one I must have only been about 8 or 9 but I used to be scared when the Demon was on screen, and also when the girls mother got taken over and brainwashed I was very scared :P.

As I posted in the poll thread.
I found my daughter had put all her doctor who figures in a circle watching each other. She is sound asleep now.

My 6 old niece got really bad nightmares from the Clockwork droids in GitF, she has refused to watch DW since*

As I've been living in the same house as her since just before Series 3 started I rarely get to see DW when it's broadcast and have to watch it after she has gone to bed.

Only just finished watching Blink.

With EC/DD, GitF and now Blink it seems the Moffat episodes are the ones that really scare kids.

*Well she has watched some of the Classic series since as she does not find that scary.

I thought this was one of the best episodes.. I've always thought the "hiding behind the sofa" was a bit lame.. But this episode made use of some great techniques, with the light flickering and so on.. And their faces actually freaked me out.

It seems some of the best villains are the simplest.

Different things scare kids. There were a couple of classic cinema 'jump' moments in Blink and they definitely freak kids out. Not to mention the idea of things moving when your back's turned. In The Girl In The Fireplace, the clockwork droid under the bed was something that was always going to scare kids. I don't know about anyone else but when I was a kid the idea of something being under my bed was... *shiver* OK, maybe I still don't like the idea... mwehehehe

When I was very young, I used to watch the You Can Read videos, but I would never watch the Space one, because I was terrified by the horrible Urgtarg of Org. It hid inside a wardrobe of a "dark, dark house" on an asteroid or moon.

A spaceman came to visit the place, found the monster and then ran away, but I always thought he got left on the asteroid because you never saw him getting into the spaceship - I thought it was on autopilot! It had me terrified by what might come out of my wardrobe for years, doesn't mean I'm not a well adjusted adult - yeah right .

It's clear that they should not be watching certain TV shows if it frightens them.

Kids do like to be frightened though and its important that we don't wrap them in cotton wool and overreact to what I would call healthy scares ..(Please note I am not advocating children watching horror movies etc and I did not allow my kids to watch Torchwood which I regarded as too old for them)... Doctor Who is a healthy scare in my book

My 10 year old boy had nightmares every night for 2 weeks after "The Empty Child" and can't even look at a picture of it now...

He woke up at 2.30am after a nightmare last night after "Blink"and had to come into bed with me to "feel safe" He has been talking about the episode all morning and feels lots better now though

Steven Moffat certainly knows what he is doing!!!

I don't know about the kids ( mine are all late teens now) But I certainly wanted to hide behind the sofa and even got my son to lock the doors a bit earlier

The older generation had Daleks (& Cybermen), perhaps the Weeping Angels will be the new generations version of 'behind the sofa' scary monster.

I will admit that the previous 2 parter had really disappointed me, but this was a really good save and has kept me interested in DW. While not scary for me, I can see how children would find it giving them nightmares. The 'stop motion' of the angels was very well done and made them seem all the more scary.

yep..I'm one of those 'older' people who used to hide behind the sofa in the 70s when Doctor Who got too frightening. I must admit that I was quite tempted to do the same last night. very scary episode

I used to hide behind the sofa when the daleks were on when I was a kid (im 27) and I was ok about going to sleep because I knew they couldnt climb the stairs to get me in my bedroom....................until the time they learnt and then I didnt sleep properly for about a week.
Demon headmaster used to scare me as well, and the first time I saw Jurassic park I couldnt sleep without my sister being in the bedroom with me, again for about a week.
