Well, you would imagine after all that talk of discovering a new young and poppy Timberlake/Jackson style Joseph, ALW would be slightly irked at getting 'the old bloke' as my sons friend called Lee the other day

I'm sure he is very happy.

I was impressed with all three so I thought the fairest thing to do was not vote at all

He often wears a lugubrious expression though - it's hard to tell when he's happy or not.

I thought ALW looked very happy indeed - why wouldnt he. He had just found someone whom the public adore and voted for in their droves to play the lead part in his musical.

He himself is a part of one of the best loved shows on tv and he is unearthing great talent on every show.

Connie was fabulous singing The Sound of Music.

Lee proved himself to be a fantastic singer/performer tonight.

He was the deserved winner for me.

I've no doubt that ALW would have been breaking out the champagne after the show!

I agree with you 100%.

Lewis and Keith were both good, and I can see Lewis especially, going on to have a great career, but Lee was outstanding, and I should imagine A.L.W. is absolutely delighted.

Can't remember the exact words but he said something like 'if you want to see the best talent Britain has, you've come to the right show'.

Hi Helena, I think we're in a minority here, but I didn't think he looked that happy either. Certainly not as happy as me!

Maybe he's in a difficult position tho, if he looks happy, people say fix (they have!)

And if not, then we wonder why!

I definitely think he would have prefered Lewis. But when it came down to Keith and Lee, it could only have been Lee. At least he knows he has a very competent leading man for the part, even if he doesn't fit his original image.

You wouldn't do it that way. You might say something negative about the one you want to make sure people didn't think it was inevitable they would win and still voted for him. You don't indicate who you think is best or who you want to win . You would raise your doubts about the other people's moving and acting skills - though not so they got a sympathy vote. You praise all three but the one you want gets the biggest song with the biggest money moments. You then end with his best performance of all which shows the ticket buyers what they are in for.

You probably don't have to fix who wins because the running order for the final seems to reflect the votes from the week(s) before and you know the figures. You just have to make sure nothing changes in another direction and people vote. Your only problem is if someone really good who has topped previous polls gets to the final and ideally you stop them getting to the final by giving them poor song choices and negative comments before the semis. If you know no one is near in the polls you can be nice about all the contestants and claim they are all fantastic fantastic fantastic.

Lewis fitted the pop Joseph billed and sounded alright when he had enough power but I don't see him as an ALW choice. As we saw on the Maria show the job tends to go to someone who is both good and safe and the original job spec is torn up to have them. Lee shows why its him when he gives his most professional looking performance after he gets the the job.

ALW always wanted Keith IMO but Lee is perfect for the role. ALW wasn't unhappy as such, I just don't think Lee would have been his choice.

I'm a supporter of Keith, but I am pleased that he's going to have the chance to develop a bit more before taking on a major theatre role. He has what it takes, certainly vocally, but he will benefit from in depth work on other aspects of stage craft.

He will get there and when he does he's going to wow the audience.

To have gone into the West End at this time might well have been exciting for him, but I would rather it happened when he was better prepared. It's only my opinion but I felt that ALW was thinking along those lines as well.

Not getting at you, trixiehobbit, but don't you think calling someone old at 25 is like calling anyone over size zero fat? Or maybe I'm just on the defensive because I'll never see 40 again, never mind 25!

Your son is very naughty but I will forgive him because I'm happy today.

Indeed I do, but my son is 10. When I asked them who they wanted to win his mate went 'Is Lee the old bloke?? he's way old he is!" Anything older than teen years is obviously ancient to them I have a few years on Lee too

I'm sorry but I don't believe for one second that ALW wanted Keith to win. Bar the voice he had nothing at all, not the looks, charisma, stage presence, movement, stamina etc. Had keith won the show would not have gone on!

I am in total agreement with you Lula Mae.

I think Zoe definitely wanted Keith and possibly Denise and John would have been happy.

Bill and Andrew wanted Lee and Lewis in that final. After all Andrew never got the chance to get rid of Keith as he was never in the bottom 2.

Andrew always praised Keith's singing abilities but never commited himself other than that. In ALW's semi-final after show video he said "I think that Keith's got an amazing career as a SINGER and Lee an amazing career in the THEATRE.

I agree completely as well. ALW gave keith a lot of criticism throughout the show. Yes, he would say he liked his voice but he always seemed to find some niggly things to pull him up on.

I dont think Lee fits into the young poppy image that ALW wanted (and i think he wanted Lewis) but the Connie didnt really fit into the young maria who would climb a tree and scrape her knee...and look how brilliant she has turned out to be.

I think ALW was happy with the result in that it was between Keith and Lee, but i think he would have been much much much happier had it been his chosen one, Lewis

Yep, completely agree.

And I still can't see what he saw in the lad myself. One flash of genius in his performance with Lee in the semi final, two above average (but still not spectacular) performances in the final. Plenty of potential, but not yet the superstar Andrew said he was looking for.
