Using your index finger and thumb, stretch your eye lids, top and bottom, to keep them from closing all the way. This overcomes the involuntary blinking, and even if you do blink you are not actually closing your eyes.

Your eyes start watering after a while, but you could last long enough to escape.

Of course, it would have turned 'Blink' into a comedy if characters started walking around doing this. It tickled me though to imagine this when I watched it last night.

Um, it's specifically mentioned in the episode that they cover their eyes to avoid freezing each other and they were finally defeated in the show when they ended all looking at each other when the Tardis disappeared.

(I don't think it was specified that the lifeform had to be organic, just capable of observing them.)

They are living and only turn to stone when being observed. Anything living is by definition organic.

Not sure about that; was the 'living' star in "42" organic?

Are you trying to tell me that the statues aren't? You mean they really exist?

You've got me scared now. I've got a statue in my garden, oh hold on; it's not there now

Well, that was interesting (reliving the 1960s)

On the plus side I got to see all the classic Who episodes that I missed first time around; on the minus side I'm now 109

Couldn't post a warning to myself as I didn't want to screw up the timeline and destroy 13 23rds of the universe.

That may be your definition of life but it wouldn't be many peoples, the statues were almost certainly not organic.

There is no universal and agreed definition of life, it's very difficult, especially with our limited knowledge of other planets or possible ecosystems. Would a silicon based "life form" be alive? Is Data (STTNG) alive? I would say yes to both of those but neither is organic.

The definition of organic means carbon based, viruses are definitely organic but whether they are alive or not is more disputable.

Its not my definition its the scientific definition. But I'm not that worked up over this as at the end of the day this was just a TV piece of fiction.

No, you're talking about the definition of organic life, obviously organic life is organic. There is no universally accepted definition of life in general, it's a very difficult subject.

I was just responding to your post where you said "Anything living is by definition organic", this is clearly incorrect.

That wouldn't work because a statue can't freeze by seeing itself. If it did then they would have frozen every time they caught sight of their own outstretched arms as they were lunging at people!

Couldnt you wear them joke shop goggly eyes glases so the statues thought you were looking at them or would they sense it was a trick? Any Weeping Angels care to contribute?

If only you could have persuaded the BBC not to wipe some of the stories, then there would be a complete Who collection out there for us all to enjoy, although I hate to think of the cost of the entire Who output on DVD! (But I bet the easter eggs would be good!)

That does conjure up a very funny mental image. Well, it does for me.

You must wonder how a species like that came to evolve eyes in the first place. Surely they would be far better off loosing them from the gene pool and just letting their other senses compensate. Speaking of which I'd hate to imagine their approach to reproduction - or for that matter raising children without once looking at them.
