Alan Sugar knew Katie was not serious about the job. Reckons his intincts were correct, well why did he offer her place in the final.

He is such a cr@p manager. Reasons for letting Lohit go, because he is a nice guy.

Logic isn't his strong point.

He claims they are very good contestants this year - implicitly better than last year. Thats what he has to argue if he thinks he needs an excuse for choosing Michelle - either he got it right last year and its his fault that choice went wrong or he got it wrong or there was no better choice. Actually the contestants are similar on paper both years and some did better in the tasks last time..

Then he goes on to demolish his own argument they were better by pointing out that they were variations on disapointing, hopeless or out of their depth - until he gets to Naomi who was just not as good as the people in the last 5. Even thats odd because two of the people who do get there are not suitable at all in his view. Tre is too argumentative to fit in (which was the case since week 1) and Lohit is invisible.

He's then left argung that Simon is good when all he can show is enthusiasm and that Kristina is shrewd and competent when the same or more could be said about Ruth and Michelle. He's also claims to have got the two best people in the final when in fact he's got the two best people who want his job and one of the people in the final was actually in line to be sacked for not being one of the best two.

The new bit was the I would have sacked Katie if she hadn't gone line which again seems fantasy as in the story they showed its Katie who shows and raises the doubt and in Tre's version SAS only finds out when someone tells him after he has given Katie a place. Sir Alan Stalin used to rewrite history too. He would have cut katie from every shot.

Don't believe SAS would of changed his mind about katie
He is just trying to get out of the fact that she managed to hoodwink him too
He just looks even more stupid now for trying to say he would of changed his mind

Well he put enough pressure on her to get her to stand down. And it's not like he had all the info that us viewers had at the time, he didn't get to see the TV footage.

Sir Alan Sugar's woeful decision to put the Big Brother wannabe/sociopath Katie Hopkins in the final clearly presented the producers with a major problem. What price the show's credibility for the next two series that Sir Alan has been signed up to? Hence we get the spin now that Sir Alan had her number all along. I think there's enough evidence from Tre and also Adam's comment on another thread to suggest that Katie Hopkins made a fool of Sir Alan big time.

Loved the programme last night . SAS admitted it was the biggest mistake in The Apprentice he's made when he offered Katie a place in the final and she said no.

He didn't say it was the biggest mistake he's made, but "it could've been the biggest bloody mistake I've made", meaning if he'd offered her the position at the end.

Last year's will take a little beating though!

Yeah, I don't buy it that Sir Alan offerend the job to Katie to draw her out. She fooled him.

It was a mistake though. Offering her a place in the final, I mean. He knew (or at least suspected) her position. He should have just fired her - and told her why. Especially, as you say, after Ms Dewberry!

I find it ridiculous that Katie walked away from that imagining that she was the true winner, that she was his favourite because he picked her first. He said he was offering her a courteous get out or something like that. WHY??? She had not exactly shown him or his job any courtesy or respect.

I think SirAlan showed poor judgement there, if I had him in the boardroom I'd have pointed out that for once he "cocked it up royal". (as such.)

SirAlan won in the end and Katie got found out. I actually think this was a brilliant outcome, whether it was SirAlan's true intention or not.

After watching Katie play other people all series, she finally got played herself. Brilliant tv.

I didn’t like this programme as much as the one last week, as I felt we were just going over old ground. Last week I felt we learnt much more about the candidates, this seemed to be a recap of the series to date. We didn’t learn that much new about Sir Alan either. I think it would have worked better if someone had interviewed him, to get him to reflect on his decision making process rather than just his narrative.

I was watching to see what reason was given for firing Naomi after the home shopping task, since she was clearly not the worst performer in that team (Simon was - the wheelchair was not a good product choice, regardless of the money it brought in, Simon was a poor presenter, and he froze when supposedly doing the production role). I think AS basically said that he was looking at the candidates overall, and not judging on how they performed that week. In which case, what was the point of that task? Why limit the candidates at risk to those on the losing team?

I absolutely agree. Him saying he 'knew all along' is just post-rationalisation. Fair enough he did not have the info that we as viewers all have, but what he IS supposed to have is nous, a shrewdness, an unerring instinct. He is always telling contestants not to think they can make a fool out of him. Well, wrong - Katie did.

He had an extremely lucky escape.

I credited him with being a bit more shrewd about the whole Katie thing to be honest. I think he made the offer to test her, and see whether she really wanted the job or not. Ultimately, possibly due to the damage it would do to her media career, and a bit of (possibly not entirely misplaced) job snobbery, she opted out of it.

Sugar would have looked like even more of a plank if he had offered Katie a place in the final then took it back.

Those 3 muppets who did the interviewing totally backed Katie, that just about sums up his orgnization and the kind of people that work for him.

I thought SA said that his instinct was right all along, not that he "knew all along" that she wasn't in it for the job? He was obviously hoodwinked by her (perhaps it's those eyes!) but did admit to that. He kind of proved he was suspicious of her motives in about week six because I remember him asking her at some point if she really wanted to work for him.

I thought he was telling the truth when he said he finally realised that his suspicions were correct when her face changed as he told her she was in the final, but I don't believe he would have changed his mind right there and then! Pity really as I'd have liked to know the other peson he had in mind to fire beforehand.

SAS was interviewed at length on Breakfast today.

When asked if the Katie stand-down "really happened like that - it seemed so dramatic" - he had a fit of stuttering and didn't answer the question (so obviously - not!). He started waffling about how candidates are told when they get to the last 20 they are told what is involved if they get to the final so it was "sailing close to the wind" for her to suddenly drop out at that late stage.

He was then asked if he thought that now the Apprentice is in its third series, it is inevitable that some candidates did not truly want to work for him but just wanted to be on the telly.

"In order for you to enjoy a media career, the media has got to need you and want you. And what I can't understand about dear Katie is that she has portrayed herself in such an manner that I am at a loss to understand what she is doing. People don't like her. That's the bottom line."

Thanks for the lowdown Lippincote on SAS on Breakfast - I wish I'd seen it. Sounds like he's still bewildered by Ms Hopkins' actions - me and him both! IMO the stuff she's come out with on air and in print post-Apprentice has been even more poisonous than that shown on the programme itself & now she's lost her job. What on earth is going on in her head? Fascinating stuff - she's goldmine material for the psychology industry.
