Where have all the Threads gone? There used to be lots here, but now there's only two, apart from this one.

The threads are still there, there's just not much activity:

I guess most folks are finding that Pioneer machines just get on with it, so there's not much to moan about

I have dithered for some time over which DVD recorder with hard disc to go for. Everyone says it's best to stick with the 3 leaders in the field eg Panasonic, Sony or Pioneer.

However I have read of so many problems with the present and previous releases of both Panasonic and Sony that I am veering towards the Pioneer, preferably either the 540 or the 545, as I haven't heard anything about the latest models.

Professional reviews of Pioneer's recorders, though, rate them as second best behind both Panny and Sony, but I have read very little from actual users. I am hoping this is because the machines are so reliable and problem-free.

Is there any advantage in my opting for the latest Pioneer, or is it best to stick with last year's tried and trusted model (providing I can find one for sale!)

Anne-Sophie.

I've found the Pioneer recorders to be very good. They are easy to programme, the images are good and they don't break down very often. The problems I've had have been easily resolved through help on this forum, as well. If you are going to buy a new one, then I'd recommend.

I have a 550H-X, which hasn't let me down yet. The Guideplus system is pretty good for setting things to record, but it does depend on you having access to an ITV1 analogue channel or a sky channel (I can't remember which as ITV1 works for me. Guideplus covers most channels, but not all. And occasionally you'll have to reset the system (there's information on the forum). The chief thing about the 545H-S is that it has and HDMI connection.

I imagine some of the new machines may be good, too. Can I also note that my in-laws have a good Sony Hard Disk/DVD recorder which I find more fiddly and less intuitive to use.

Good luck in finding a machine.
