Sir Alan wants an Apprentice, but is he still stuck in 1984?
Both last year and this year, I wanted the runner up to win.
Last year, I rooted for the Badger from about half way through the series. She was clearly the better candidate for the job of making Amstrad more money. But, she lost out to Michelle. This year, I rooted for Kristina again from about half way through and again, she was clearly the better candidate for the job of making Amstrad more money. She lost to Michelle (may have been from a 'wo is me rich boy' but it was still the same story'). The Badger has started to forge herself an excellent career and I'm sure Kristina will utilise Kristina time and do the same, ultimatley realising that being the runner up was actually better than winning. Now to my point, both Michelle and Simon were very intelligent, confident yet young. Unlike Badger and Kristina, they weren't (or aren't) the finished article, so they are a true Apprentice. Yet, Amstrad can't afford an Apprentice, it hasn't got 5-10 years to make a finished article, it needs to make money today. The actual company has been losing profits for almost 20 years (most of SAS's money is earnt in property) because Sir Alan hasn't been able to focus it since his computer went tits up. Amstrad needs a Badger or a Kristina who can focus the company and make it really profitable again, it doesn't need an Apprentice. Which leads me to believe SAS is still stuck in 1984 and all that talk of sales, business acumen etc is codswollop because its clear he isn't displaying it Doesn't he realise that Amstrad should be on the next series of 'Badger or Bust'? |

As you say, most of Sir Alan's money is made in property and that's what he wanted his Apprentice to work in - I personally think Simon was the right choice for that role.

I hate to break the illusion here but you do not entrust the future of your company to the winner of a gameshow. If you want to hire someone to turn your company around you hire someone with proven experience in running a big business. Christina and Ruth are excellent sales people but it would be a leap of faith to thrust them into a board situation or get them to lead up a major product.
With Michelle and Simon you have the potential to become that person you could trust with a real world multi-million pound company. I think Sir Alan has acknowledged that is electronics business has seen better days but he has other cards up his selve namely property. |
