Mrs F - you might just have a future here.....I'd love to hear your theories on how the plot unfolds. I wonder if The People Who Matter at EE ever read this forum.....your ideas may be a vast imrovement on theirs. And then we can all say 'we wuz here first'

Some suggestions for those scriptwriters:

He will first be seen late night after closing at Angie's Den. Only Billy and Sharon will be left in the club. Billy will just be locking up and there'll be that all-impending knock on the door. A few choice, pre-watershed words will be uttered by Billy, who will end up "All right, all right, mate,"-ing it as he opens the door.

"Don't you have a home to go to?" he'll politely enquire, as Sharon appears over his shoulders, her shocked face heralding that famous line "You'd better come in."

Now, no disrespect to Lesley Grantham, but I reckon they should get a different actor to play Den, because if he had to stay in hiding for 14 bloody years, surely he would have had plastic surgery, eh???

I reckon the dentist who checked his dental records was probably bent - after all, would a crook like Dennis Watts get his teeth looked at by a legitimate family dentist? Not on your nelly! He probably paid him £10K or so to falsify his report and declare Den officially dead.

What I can't handle is how a man who adored his Princess Wooden Top would abandon her for all this time and never give her so much as a nod or a wink that he was alive and well and living in Rio or wherever.

By the way, I am sure that the Mitchell brothers arrived in the square BEFORE his death. Can anyone else remember? They just didn't show any interest in Sharon until a few years later, and were minor characters back then dealing with dodgy MOTs for dodgy motors down the arches. So I think the sum total of existing characters who remember Den and have been with us all that time are:

Dot, Pauline, Sharon, Pat, Ian & Phil.

Personally I reckon Ian Beale is one of the best characters on EE, but I can't wait for his voice to break!

Yes, with you re the dental records. He has to be recognisable (or does he? Isn't the whole thing incredible anyway!), so perhaps he'll just have had his fingerprints removed.

Now, then, after he turns up, one of his first sojourns will be to see Pauline Fowler in the launderette. Any offers for how that scene will develop?

The door opens and you see a pair of men's feet step into the launderette.

Pauline looks up. "Huff, I thought there was a bad smell in the air when I got up this morning. I knew you'd be back one day Dennis Watts - no-one could get rid of a rat like you that easily." She goes back to folding the washing in front of her.

Den: "Innit amazing. I go away for 14 years, and when I return, you're just as grumpy as ever. How do you do it, Paul?"

Now part of me wants the following to happen .....

They suddenly rush to each other's embrace and as they kiss and reunite, they talk of their love child MARK and where he is now!!!! If that happens, half the audience will either choke on their tea or fall out of their seats laughing. It would surely be a classic.

No, the end of that scene will probably be Pauline telling Den that if he corrupts her Granddaughter Vicky with his rotten ideas, she'll have his guts for garters, and throwing a pair of Jim's long johns at him as he makes a hasty retreat to try and find a friendly face. Not going to be many of those about for him now though.

By the way, Kathy's back next year, apparently...not so exzciting though, because we KNOW she isn't dead. Typical though, that she comes back after Phil leaves, so he still doesn't get Ben back in his life, poor bloke.

And Barry's off in the Autumn. So it's all change again, I see. Ho humm :yawn:

So it obviously links to all the bad influences he will have on Vicky. She's already into gambling (courtesy of Den Jr.). What next? Walford has already done prostitution. Have they had a lesser though? Or better still, she could be a female gangland boss, start a protection racket, play off Laura against Ian (cos there will be a bit of a vaccuum when Phil leaves), intimidate Alfie.....

They have had a couple of lesbians. Binnie & Della, remember them?

I have to admit I only remember them because the girl who played Binnie used to live near me.

At the mention of Kathy - wasn't there a rape as well (or attempted...) with that double barrelled what's-'is-name Brown? Now between them, Kathy & Den must surely liven up the whole proceedings.

I remember the lesbians well - and the 2 gays - they covered everything back in the 80s didn't they!

I've got the bug for these storylines now. Firstly, the Mitchells are dead, long live the Watts'!!!

I reckon Den Jr and Vicky will become right villains, and Sharon will tag along " 'cos they're family". She'll be a younger version of Babs' Peggy, I reckon. And Den Senior will be summoned back to the manor by the very gangland boss that he faked his death to escape from. They want Den Senior to get his kids under control, especially as it is them who are responsible for seeing off Phill Mitchell and his Mum once and for all. Obviously, once Den is back, he gets his feet under the table, and once the obvious friction with Den Jr has passed (after a decent punch-up in the square and a slanging match in the Vic, OF COURSE), The Watts family are back to stay!! Please applaud everyone, this is good stuff.

Then, just as everything settles down, and one of Squeelie Bealies kids pops an unexpected sprog at Christmas, as someone always does, back comes good old Kaff, to see who has ousted her ex-hubbie from the Square. She is so chuffed that he's gone, she's come back to thank the guilty party, namely Den Senior, and before anyone knows what hit 'em, those 2 are an item. Well, let's face it, who has Den got to choose from in his age group? It's got to be Kaff or Pat - and even I can't picture that one happening!

So Den retires from the family business and Dennis Jr runs the manor again, and Den & Kaff drive off into the sunset to spend their twilight years in......(suggestions on a postcard please)

Yes, Wilmott-Brown ran the Dagmar, and raped Kathy upstairs after inviting her up for a drink after work one night (she was a barmaid and it was a Wine Bar). Good old Den Watts burnt it down soon afterwards, and it remained a burned out shell until years later, when IAN of all people turned it into his Meals on Wheels depot. That shocked everyone cos it was his own mum who got raped there. Somehow, I don't think Den will be impressed with the way his best mate's boy has turned out. There's a lot in Ian Beale that he will not approve of. It should make interesting viewing.

OK then - just how much do you think she will know about her long-lost Daddy? She's turned away from anything her brother might have done - do you think she'll forgive Den? (Pout) 'He must have been misunderstood' . I know Gran will have let her know his character but even Pauline has to take feelings into consideration. Gawd - I think we're about a year down the road with all this speculation!
Oh - and puleez don't upset Alfie - he's just lovely

Fly in the ointment, Sue with Den being called back to the manor by the gangland boss, as it is this selfsame gangland boss who has died and prompted Den's return. However, I see scope here, in that the gangland boss probably has surviving family members around about Den Jr.'s age who may be keen to avenge their late father.

In fact, I feel a sub-plot brewing, in that the late gangland boss' son (let's call him Ron for argument's sake) will waltz into the square having heard that Den Watts Sr. is back in town. He'll become Sharon's new love interest (both recently bereaved, able to empathise with each others' losses), and just when they're about to pack their smalls and head for the hills (or maybe just Margate for a dirty weekend), who should scupper the plans but Den Junior. Dialogue along the lines of: "What's more important, Sharon, Ron or family?" springs to mind... a real modern day Romeo and Juliet story!

Daxley, Alfie will be strong enough not to be blackmailed by Vicky. Don't forget that he already has the trump card here, as Peggy already knows about his criminal past, so there is no scope for blackmail.

It will be interesting to see how the relationship between Den Sr. and Alfie develops though...

I couldn't agree with you more! That's why I've left him out of all this - I don't want anything bad to happen to Alfie - he's the best new character for years.

I hope after the initial problems have blown over that he settles down with Kat and they have a couple of rugrats and run the pub together longterm. Dappie little Mo could look after the sprogs while they live it up with the punters behind the bar.

I think everyone including Alfie will feel loads of distrust towards Den on his return, but after a while, I can see Alfie and Den getting on like a house on fire - after all Alfie is not that much different in personality to Pete Beale - Den's old buddy.

Forgive me for being dopey but i think i have missed something here - the fact everyone is connecting Alfie to Den Sr???

Sorry we lost you. Just take it slowly and think things through. There is no link between Den & Alfie yet, BUT when Den comes back, he's gonna need a buddy to spar with in the pub, yeah? Someone to wheel and deal with, play poker with, etc. Pete's dead. Ali the taxi/cafe man has long gone. All his mates are gone, basically. The obvious character to link him to is ALFIE. 2 peas in a pod. Both ex-cons. Both eager to do a deal on the wrong side of the law. Both loveable rogues. So that's why we keep talking about them both. It's an obvious friendship waiting to happen.

I'm not sure that the fact that I remember all the old stuff is good though - makes me feel like I'm getting old. I've watched EE from the very first episode! Sad!
