I recently went to an electronics show and they had a panasonic with a PC card slot in its body (like laptops have for instaling mobile connect cards etc). The sales person there mentioned it to be usefull but I cannot figure out, why I would need it. What kind of PC card can I install and use with a tv? Can I install a ethernet PC card and stream media?

I thınk its model number was something like 42 HS (or PS) 500. I did couple of searches but not much came out of it.

I would appriciate any thoughts on this subject

thanks

I dont think they are PCMCIA card slots (although they might be) but I believe they are for Conditional Access Modules, these allow for things like pay TV cards etc (such as the Top Up TV one)

Would there be any use other than top up tv? Most satellite boxes are sold wıth their slots installed anyways so ı would not thınk ı would need ıt

If ıt ıs just for top up tv, then it would not be much use to me as I am not in the UK or in an area with a DVB conditional access broadcast

It's for terrestrial channels, NOT satellite - it's an EU requirement on digital TV's.

If you're in the EU, as I mentioned above, it's a requirement that one is included on the set if it's a digital one.

Some older Pana' lcd/plasmas did have a pcmcia slot on the front of the set to allow varous camera memory cards to slot in to view the pictures. That stopped 18months ago when they released the 600 series of sets with SD slots only.
