and it is these STUPID political statements thar RUIN so much of whart is meant to be ENTERTAINMENT.

Seeing as ethnic minorities only make up about 5% of the population then we shouldnt expect to get a black doctor until about the 19th regeneration...

Taking you seriously for a moment, by that logic the second Doctor should have been female and the sixth should have been a child.

If they did use a black actor to play a future regeneration of the Doctor, my vote would be for Lenny Henry. A fantastic actor and just the right mix of dramatic intensity and comedic mania for such a role.

Lenny Henry would also be good enough to rise above any complaints that the casting would be some sort of political statement.

..I'd only like to see it if they cast a doctor based on acting skills and not skin colour.

Danger of the same stupidity as when they had a black Vulcan, only perhaps worse. As per the typical SciFi cliche vulcan is a desert planet, or at least the part that Spock came from. Then again most of the vulcans we saw in the original series came from the same region, so perhaps as far as vulcan goes it's only mildly sunny.

In the case of Galifrey, the whole of the TimeLord society lived inside a domed city. Other Galifreyans left from there. It seems that so much interbreeding would have taken place that they'd all end up with the same skin tone.

However there is always the Romana option, where she adopted the appearance of someone she'd met in her travels. Hugh Quarshie would then be eligible for the role.

In the case of DW, he isn't stereotypically white - he's British and barmy, that's it. So he could work as a black character or Asian character or whatever.”

Having Black Vulcans does make sense. Skin Colour is determined by light intensity from the Sun not Heat. Anyway not all deserts are hot the Gobi Desert for example.

As for having a Black Doctor as long as the man selected is the best of the actors who auditions for the part then so what.

Having white Vulcans didn't though. Assuming that skin colour is determined in the same way as with humans. From the series we know that the sun on vulcan was so intense that the natives had evolved a defense against being blinded by it.

As far as having a black doctor is concerned, unless the actor in the role is vastly superior to any other candidate, there will always be a suspicion that it's been a politicaly motivated selection.

He's American. Fanboys would slit their wrists if they cast him.

Adrian Lester would make a great Doctor (lots of actors could bring something to it), but he would probably turn down the role if it was too stereotypical. I recall him saying in an interview that he likes being known as actor that happens to be black instead of a black actor, which is how it should be these days.
