After ten number ones and the greatest comeback in pop history, Take That's new single is set to flop.

Midweek charts show I'd wait for Life at only 170 on downloads alone, a week before the physical release.

The slow song which lacks any excitement and sounds like a Gary Barlow solo effort has failed to win support from radio stations.

The single has lacked the promotion of the previous releases as the Take That comeback honeymoon comes to an end.

I like the song, hope it does well in the shops.

In fairness it hasn't been promoted at all.

It hasn't even been played on Radio 1 I don't think.

Yes I agree. I'm a Take That fan, but I admit my report was deliberately critical.

I think it was not the best choice of song. Radio 1 just doesn't play songs like that. It is too slow and too middle of the road for Radio 1 and even Radio 2 is rarely playing it.

So awareness of the new single is not high. Asda no longer selling singles will not help them either.

It will be interesting to see if they do any last minute promotion and TV appearances, or if they pull the single release completely to avoid a major flop, or maybe their fans will rush out on a slow week to give them a hit.

I think they should have released A Million Love Songs with Leona as sung on the X-factor final. That would have given them another number one and loads of airplay. They could have then repackaged the album with that song, a bonus song or two and the videos.

I downloaded the album a while back and after listening to it a couple of times, I just was not impressed so I removed all but Patience from the iPod, although I do like Shine, but not enough to take up valuable memory capacity.

Just listening to this I'd Wait for Life just to see what I was missing as I don't recall any others being good enough for a single release and I have to say, nice song but extremely bland and no where near good or interesting enough for a single release. In fact, I'd say it's quite pants. Maybe it's a grower.

To be honest, if you are a TT fan you will have the album so who WOULD buy it apart from those 1 or 2 who may hear it and like it. And why shouldnt Radio 1 play it because its slow. That hasnt stopped them playing slushy stuff before. A few days ago Jo Whiley played Patience. Why? why not play the new one?!!!

Would be a real shame if it flops, hope it's just a blip ! The album is fab, I was surprised at this as a single choice given the high quality of 'beautiful world' as a whole.

I like Take That, but this song is so boring. I would never choose to listen to it. They should have released 'Ain't no sense in love' or maybe 'Beautiful world'. Those two songs are probably the only other songs on the album which could be singles.

It is very dull. I can't see them releasing any more singles from this album.

so we all agree that they were never actually any good, just heavily marketed and promoted? good, glad we cleared that up.

Im a TT fan and have been for years but I don't think it will do very well either

Its had almost zero promotion although to be fair they are on holiday at the moment. Its had no airplay - I've heard it once on Radio 2 but thats it and it is a slow song. I don't know why they didn't release Reach out or Beautiful World they are more upbeat songs for this time of year.

I agree with a post above - this will just be a blip for them. They've got the tour at the end of the year so maybe they'll release something else to co-incide with that....

how does that agree with my post?

Why would anyone download this song anyway? I'm no TT fan but we all know the album has sold Sh*t loads so every possible TT fan must have the track by now - why waste your money on downloading the track again (it's not as if you get any b-sides or anything.

Odd that, because I actually quite like the new tune, and I'm certainly no Take That fan.

Shine on the other hand was just utter crap I am afraid to say.

Gary Barlow simply cannot sing and the song was just an abomination of current music!

Gary didn't sing Shine, Mark did.

I am a Take That fan and i do have the album, but i will be buying it when it comes out on cd next week, maybe that's what other fans are doing to get the B-sides?

Agree with all of the above. Patience was so-so, Shine was pretty poor to be honest, but I think this song is far better than either of them. It's a very strong song if you ask me.

Failure paaarrrr!!!! I'm sure with a World Tour sold out within minutes at the end of this year the boys won't be sobbing because this single doesn't hit number 1.
They have their priorities right, ie on holiday with their kids. They promoted Patience, Shine and the album heavily and have gruelling tour rehearsals approaching after the Diana gig.
Gary has a fantastic voice by the way Mark sang Shine
I will be out on Monday with all the other fans buying the cd single. The B-sides fantastic too

Reach Out should have been released instead. Far beter.

Love the song-for me it's one of the best songs they've done. Having said that unless you've a truly dedicated fanbase I think most acts are going to struggle with the 3rd single from an album these days.

Let alone one that's already sold in excess of 1.5m copies.

Reach Out does seem to be the fan favourite for the third comeback single.

I think I'd Wait will be outside top twenty on the physical release Sunday week. This after six consecutive number ones will be a flop.

If I was the Take That record label, I'd postpone the release due Monday (well, shred them!) try and do a deal with Simon Cowell to get the Leona Million Love Songs duet and make it a double A side with I'd Wait and give it a few weeks for airplay and promotion.

I'm not a Leona fan, but it would benefit her by keeping her in the public eye (I mean people will be forgetting her by now) and it would give Take That an 11th number one, plus boost album sales.

Otherwise, from a commercial point of view, the I'd Wait release seems pointless or even self-destructive.

Take That have been riding on a wave of nostalga and media support, but we all know how the media love to build somebody up and then crush them.

A major flop would be sensationalised and turned into negative headlines for Take That.

Gary Barlow should know better than anyone. After two solo number ones and a chart topping album, the media Robbie verses Gary battle destroyed his solo career and turned him into a joke.

There is a yin and yang in the Robbie V Take That story. After Robbie William's poorest performing last album, the media would probably love to make another TT V RW battle as Robbie prepares to come back with a new swing album later in the year.

I am not surprised that this song could struggle.

It just doesn't get going at all, has no hook (unlike Shine, which I hated at first, but it just grew on me!) and is instantly forgettable.

As someone above pointed out, it is like one of Gary Barlow's solo efforts that failed to make an impact.

The Beautiful World album is a decent album, but this is one of the tracks on the album that people would be inclined to skip past.

I am sure they are working on some new material, and hopefully will come up with something better next time.
Absolutely

Take That just gave a performance on Popworld.
Even if this single wont do so well, they are a huge success anyhow.
They are great.
