A second PVR?
Monday Solder

Believe it or not, there are occasions when the ability of my Humax 90200t to record two channels is just not enough.

I would like to get a second PVR, clearly Humax have shot themselves in the foot by not having two IR channels for their remote. Can anyone recommend a second PVR.

I am drawn to the Topfield but the cost is excessive, though a decent working archive to PC feature is attractive.

Recent trawls around the usual stack-em-high sheds indicate that the PVR market has expanded somewhat.

Does anyone have any views on the alternatives, the Sagems, Goodmans etc.

Digihome PVR80 is very good for the price, a doddle to use and set up, seems very stable too. Only thing is it can't record 2 channels at once (not without an over the internet software update!).

But it's good for the price, we have 2 in our home.

I recently just bought the topfield and buy god i would recomend it to anyone. Yes it is a bit more expensive but it can do so much more. It does everything that i was expecting the media centre pc to do that i bought last year and that i now find out it doesn't do.
For one thing it's got alot of connectivity to the PC and alot of programs written for that side of it to make it work even better which i haven't yet explored and they're programs you download onto the machine so you dont need to have it plugged into the computer on all the time.
If you miss something and want to hear it again then with out having it recording you can just rewind it, as long as you dont change channels it's storing two hours with out you having to do anything. From what i know of my mums humax you had to press a button to get it to do chase play and then you had to find where it was.

It's got a nice hand set as well. I've got a pioneer pver thats hdd/dvd so as i couldn't find another one of those with dual tuner that was why i went for the toppy so i could record onto the mc pc from it and I'm very glad i could find the dvd/hdd.
My only complaint with it so far would be that when you set the timers and then list them they show up in the order you programmed them and not in date order but that's something that corrected via the TAPs which you download from the web site.

Because i thought the humax was being discontinued as everyone suddenly didn't have any more in stock and i recalled reading something about it on here I did look at other ones and they all seemed to have things i didn't like in it. It's all personal preference really though isn't it.
I like to be able to continue to watch the current program whilst looking at what else is on ore programing the pvr yet other people - those on the shopping channels- seem to think it's a brilliant idea that when you scroll through the epg it gives you a preview of whats currently showing, my TV does that and it drives me mad, apart from anything else you nearly always want to see what else is on at the end of a program when everything is on a bloody ad break.

As you may have gathered I like my toppy. So glad my dad talked me into it. If the humax hadn't been discontinued I'd have bought that and I'd have regretted it if i'd then found out what this did.

What about a refurb Fusion available from about £50-£100, they're pretty sorted and stable providing they have a 3A or more power supply

Amazon has Daewoo 160 gb twin tuner pvr for £129 with free delivery as well, or it did when I last looked.

From pvr forum it seems a steady machine, but get some blu tack for the front flap (vibration?). Its a steal at that price.
