The 'problem' of Waynes sexual orientation
dougaz
03-05-2003
Interesting revelation that Phil brought up this topic in his latest diary room interview. He was explaining that he perceived Waynes sexuality as being a problem with his integration with the group, and went on to claim that this is because Wayne was uptight about it.

Now I have been watching the live feeds, and from what I have seen Wayne himself is actually quite free and open about being gay, and even jokes about it.

So who is it that REALLY has the problem?

Oh, such a shame we don't have Mrs Hamilton there, I am sure she could stir up another homophobia storm over this!

I've got to agree with you, that Wayne seems perfectly at ease with his sexuality, and I found it quite strange that it was discussed as a problematic issue...

I dont think Phil has a problem with Waynes sexuality, he just seemed concerned that Wayne might have been woried about other members of the group being judgemental and therefore may have been repressing his personality somewhat. I dont think he has however, I think Waynes been great, and he has handdled himself and his trial with great humor and dignity.

Is Wayne really gay? I'm sure I heard him mention a wife.

remember Wayne getting all sensitive that the papers were going to write about the wimp dancer fails ,maybe this is more evident in camp.
maybe this is his insecurity,i hope Phil isn't a homophobe because i think he's a top banana, how did the others react? did they go along with him?

Phil's no homophobe, he genuinely seamed concerned about wayne's happyness.

I wonder if everyone would be so quick to defend John had he made the same comments??

To be fair to Fash (crickey-never thought I'd say that ) he said that when Justin was so totally screwed up with drugs etc, and HAD tried to help him, that "tough love" seemed the only answer. I dont think it was homophobia. Just despair at the way Justin's life had spiralled so out of control.

well let's just say whether it was homophobia or addiction or something else,John shat on his brother during his troubles.

Hey now we only have the word of the tabloids to go on, you don't know what actually happened between them.

I agree i would never believe the tabloids, but John Fash decided on a public apology,so come on it's not all made up.

It wasn't just the tabloids though.

There was a documentary about the tragedy of Justin Fashanu, about two years ago.

I can't remember all the details, but I remember something about the problems between John and Justin, and John disowning him.

(Are we at the same stage of the show as last year?...You know, the time when we start digging up the celebs past. Shock news just in,..Sian did bad, dirty things on a pool table,...that sort of thing?)

I dunno bout the other Junglists, blimey Cat,Westy,Wozza's tales have been discussed whether they are blatant lies to appaer more interesting or not.

I see the doc and it was interssing, yes Brian Clough used to call Fash Jnr a queer in the dressing room which was a shame because he was probablt ten times more talented than JohnFash who milled about at Millwall for a few seasons looking none too good.

whatever the doc and the tabloids portrayed, JohnFash mad e a public apology concerning his treatment of his brother, whether he was on the gear, fiddled about with Julie Goodyear or had a great time with some blokes on holiday

I think him knocking back Sleepy for a kiss was fukin weird as well

From what I remember from the documentary, it seemed to infer that John tried to distance himself from his brother, as though it would be embarrassing for John through association with Justin.

I can't say if he was homophobic or not. It might have just been self-interest, too much for him to handle and take in,...or even something else.

Remembering back to the last series, I recall the whole Nigel Benn, Rhona Cameron, Christine Hamilton homophobia thing as riveting viewing.

Now we have Wayne, .....and let's just say that the producers have probably been doing their research on John's history.

Maybe I'm thinking too cynical but It's very possible that some potential has been seen here in having both Wayne and John in there. Whether that potential be in possible conflict, or the two men discussing an issue that has had a major impact in their lives.

Gossip at the time suggested that perhaps it was.......''even something else'' ............. (emphasis on the word 'gossip' please).

I dont think Wayne has a problem with his sexuality at all. When I watch the live feeds,he seems more at ease and able to be himself around the girls and possibly Chris. I think he has learnt over time(like most gay men)that when he finds himself to be the only gay bloke in a group of straight men to be a bit wary. Phyl has probably picked up on the fact that Wayne is less relaxed when interacting with the so called 'alpha males'.

I'd like to know if the three slightly pissed amigo's, discussed anyone else other than Sian, Wayne and Fash! Or is it only those three that fit in with the producers current story lines?

I agree with Sorca, I wish there were live feeds from the cabin, unedited for us to view. I know it will never happen, but you can tell how edited the show is when you compare the live feeds to the evening 'highlight' shows.

to touch on the subject, I dont think Phil was making homophobic comments either. I think he was highlighting the fact that Wayne doesnt perhaps feel as brave as the other male contestants. But he's doing a better job than a lot of people would have expected I bet!

Yeah I have to agree that Phil was actually I htink being supportive. He said that he felt Wayne was holding back a bit and he wished he didnt, he didnt know why, whether it was because of his sexuality. It sounded very much like he was thinking - he doesnt nee dto hold back - its not a problem.

John Fashanu has made no comments about Wayne at all as far as i can tell, but you can bet if he does there will be fireworks, cos he certainly has made his homophobia apparent in teh past as discussed above. (we like fireworks)

Thanks but shouldn't that be on the FA forum? Still appreciated though.

This morning Wayne told Phil a joke about a camp cricket umpire putting on makeup. We didn't get to see Phils face, but it was met by silence, so he presumably didn't find it at all funny. Wayne then said "No, I didnt think you would like that one".

This further indicates to me that there is an issue between the two of them, instead of it just being Fash as has been suggested above.

Never mind his sexual orientation, which really shouldn't matter, he is horribly rude when he speaks to certain people.

Particularly to AWT this morning when they were debating who should direct the "home movie docu".

Someone really should teach him some manners.

And has he shut up for a second since he arrived? Prattling on and on and on, saying absolutely zilch of importance or interest.
