I agree with Tally about her being self-centred; I also think that that is the reason the producers wanted her in in the first place. Let's face it - a lot of people tuned in just to get a look at THAT nose etc without make-up, and to see if she would ralk about her past. (Or is it just me and my wicked curiosity) In the same way, Les Dennis's traumas were terribly real and hurtful for him, but made for good viewing, and almost certainly increased the viewing figures and tabloid inches devoted to the programme.
To be honest, I did tune in partly because I was curious about her, in a rather selfish way. My pre-programme view of her was, I'm sorry to say, based on what I'd read and I felt a bit cheesed off that someone who had a great opportunity (and looks)had blown both by drug abuse. Then, just to show life isn't fair, she lands herself a millionaire. The cruel streak in me felt jealous that she has such an easy life whilst I struggle to fit in a full time nursing job with two young children and a partner who works equally as hard. I suppose it's human nature to feel a bit negative.
I have warmed somewhat to her, however. She seems sociable, to have learned from her mistakes and to genuinely miss her children. She undertook the challenge in the right spirit. It's also difficult to estimate just how you will react to being away in very different circumstances until you actually do it.
My first reaction to being offered a chance to do something like this would probably be to say yes - it's only two weeks away, for heaven's sake, but then an innocuous comment or action would probably remind me of one of my little devils and have me going all weepy. I would also probably talk about myself/family - that's what people like to do, not just celebrities.
