They haven't been proved wrong, exactly, because they have the right to their POV even if it isn't shared by others.

However sadly the usual suspects will continue to attack this episode pretty much on the grounds that it is a RTD episode regaurdless, but I suppose that's there right too....

had another writer penned that episode exactly as it was I would have said exactly the same thing.

I thought it was clever how they switched shots between The Doctor/Jack conversation and The Professor's realisation. It had an explanation of Jack's immoratility and talk of Rose for the new fans, and for the old fans...

...well, need I say more?

the dialogue in that scene was superb I agree. very crisp and the interchanges with the scenes with The Professor were smoothly done.

Im so happy that RTD has brought back the master hes a much better villian then the daleks and cybermen because he so similar to the doc so there for more of a threat.

Great episode tonight I agree.

Hopefully those who have been giving gentle knocks to the new series will have been happy with this episode, it had pretty much everything.

1. Alien planet that looks suspiciously like a quarry? - Check.

2. Fairly pointless back story to keep the plot moving along - Check.

3. Great sudden revelation of 'the bad guy' - Check.

4. Great cliff hanger with no obvious way out - Check.

and to top it all off it appears to be part 1 of 3 making it a good long story.

It would appear that RTD has been listening to the minor critisims made about the new series. I just hope he's listened enough not to bring back the Daleks for the season ending.

He can write, he just can't plot or pace an episode very well

not that it was poor writing, i just feel Human nature double blows everything out the water. In TV not just DW

Season 3 period has been great.

I think Utopia has proved that he's a pretty versatile writer. This is the most classic Who Russell has ever gone in an episode. It's as though he was watching old episodes and basically emulated the style. Derek Jacobi's 'I...am...The Master!' was straight out of classic Who.

For kids perhaps, amusing once, but no rewatchability.

Actually the "way out" is so obvious it might as well be signposted Still, I'd prefer it to be obvious than his usual "magic door from nowhere" approach.

what's your theory Rooks?

I can think of two pretty obvious ways out - the Master's tardis (must be there somewhere, otherwise how did he get there?), and Jack's temporal vortex manipulator thingy.

with no guarantee that they will return to the correct point in time. they might get back to find Saxon has been in power for some time.

The Family of Blood found themselves pretty close to where they wanted to be - a couple of months late? I think our protagonists will be a little late too - late enough for "Saxon" to worm his way into power. Probably more than a couple of months then?

my thinking too Slug. enough time to get his feet under the table and put whatever diabolical plan into action.

An excellent set of old skool ingredients. The only difference would be that there would be another 4 episodes running around the same base and quarry set if this were Classic Who!

It was signposted near the start of the episode and we know that RTD is rarely subtle. It'll be Jacks time device and it's a fair bet we will get the following scene:

The Doctor: "Your time device"
Jack: "But it's not accurate, we could end up anywhere in time"
The Doctor: "Ah but I'm a genius remember, just a quick rewiring and we'll be good to go"

Cue Sonic Screwdriver moment.
Cue The Doctor grinning inanely at Jack then the camera.

Thats my theory BG
