Hi,

I'm looking for some recommendations for sites for Region 1 disks. I've heard of Future Entertainment and Play247. Can anyone let me know if they are OK, or are there any other good ones

Thanks

Can recommend play247. All prices below customs limit and delivery usually within 3-4 days.

Play247 most definatly, I've purchased half a dozen discs from them and the prices/service is very good indeed. I did try Discshop but they messed me about.

Play 247 is fantastic, i've ordered about 50 discs from them since they started and they've got a pretty uniform pricing structure with free delivery. i.e. if a R2 disc costs £19.99 in the shops they sell it for £14.99 and if a disc costs £15.99 in the shops they sell it for £11.99 With region 1 titles they usually sell disc for £17.99 Most of the time that also includes the special editions (apart from the american MIB 2 disc set) I've already pre ordered Toystory 1 and 2 box set for £17.99 and received the Tarzan special edition on R1 for £17.99 (remember the R2 is 24.99 in the shops next month and i got the R1 in april)
The special edition Terminator film is also the same price.

I've also ordered from dvdworld (region 2) and blackstar (region 2) but for region 1 you can't beat play247 because you don't have to worry about customs (something about the fact they are based in jersey)

I always use AMAZON for my Region 1 purchases. They deliver their discs via Holland, and thus avoid any customs problems. And they get them over here pretty quickly too.

Have you also considered Region 4 (Australian) discs? They are often of the same standard as, and sometime surpass, Region 1 releases. The Region 4 version of 'The Matrix' is a good example of this.

For Region 4 discs, order form ENZDVD. They have excellent customer service, and their discs often arrive after only 4 days!

I must agree that play247 is very good. If you are looking for a wider selection of goods from the US (DVD, Playstation, CD's) you could try www.express.com they are quick and quite cheap. Also if you introduce a friend you get $10!!!

Try http://www.dvdboxoffice.com who offer an excellent service at good prices. They usually send pre-orders a week before so you have the DVD on the day or day after it's release in the US and Canada AND they offer free shipping worldwide!

Have a look at the site and for prices in pounds divide the CDN$ price by 2.

I know they sponsor the site (the reason being they were specifically invited to sponsor the site BECAUSE of their great service and reputation) but DV-Depot (http://www.dv-depot.com/) are easily my favourite R1 retailer. They are based in Canada, shipping is cheap (not free but the prices do reflect this when comparing with other retailers who do ship free) but the customer service really does put every other e-tailer to shame - emails always answered in hours (if that) not days, ...oh, and the two-cart "flexi-cart" system is sooo fantastically flexible and great fun too - lets you pre-order stuff (securing the great pre-order price) then ship it whenever you like after it has come in.

Yep - basically they send them over individually packaged but in bulk and they are then remailed from within the UK to the relevant locations. Doesn't really make any odds to us but that's the reason for it.

Marks right, it's cheaper for them to send a massive package of dvds to the uk and then use royal mail to post them from a uk location than it is to use, say UPS for every single order from the us and charge us the massive amount for postage from the US.

Do any of these etailers offer gift certificates like the Amazon scheme whereby both the referring party and the party being referred both get £5 gift certificates against any purchase (and they are stackable), the referrer gets theirs once a referred party makes a purchase.
If so please let me know.
Also if anyone wants a referral to Amazon I haven't used all mine up yet and they are worth £5 in gift certificatesa at a time. (yeah, not used up coz I aint got enough friends who are online).
email me if you want one.
cheers.
