Small event music- disco or diy?

Not sure where to put this but thought I'd try here

Am having a small party in a hall in august. All the mobile discos I have recommendations for are booked up (wedding season) I still have the option to go through yellow pages but then you have no idea how good they are, what music they have etc

I have a large amount of songs on my laptop and ipod and could easily make a playlist for the night

How hard is it to set up ipod or comp on hired equipment does anyone know? I have comp set up to play through speakers at home, through a wireless network, am I right in thinking I just need to do the same thing on bigger, hired speakers, plug in a lead?

Any help appreciated

Presumably the venue should have a PRS licence?, and the performers aren't required to - in theory you should confirm this with the venue before you play your music.

If the venue isn't licenced, then the performers do indeed need a PRS licence of their own. But I would imagine it would be difficult to find such a venue?.

The place we are holding it in is a golf club and they have regular discos for the club and hire it out for the same. No one mentioned any licence so am guessing they have their own?

I will phone some hire places and see if they can help with the set up

thank you
