You seem to suggest in an earlier post working class people are street wise. I would say there are many different types of people.

Class is very difficult these days to define (which is good). For instance, using the internet may mean you are not working class. Many people use occupation to determine class - they classify class as:

AB- Higher/intermediate managerial/administrative/professional
C1: Supervisory, clerical, junior managerial / administrative / professional
C2: Skilled manual workers
D: Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers
E: On state benefit, unemployed, lowest grade workers

but the C2 group is often considered to be wealthier than the C1 - so classification is difficult. Things are also changing as now people can move out of the rigid class system of the past with education - (there are also other ways) - so taking myself as an example - my parents would be classified as class D - I am classified as class AB - this type of jump did not occur before the 1980s at least - some would say the chances of this happening are stiill remote ( i agree - think Oxbridge) - my beef with Brian (and people like him) - and I do like him now (after last night and also, I grew up not far from him) - is that they have lots of life chances (see my post 53 - i think) - more life chances than working class people have ever had - and yet some decide to just leave them and accept what they have.

Now Brian may not be interested and may want fame etc - but I would suggest to him to return to college and gain some form of education as well (maybe because i am old).
I dont disagree with you about this and you obviously know more about this than me. you are probably better educated than me but i think i just got on the defence i thought you were being a bit snobish about him but now i understand were you are coming from im glad you like him now he seems like a really likeable and fun guy sorry it took so long to answer to your post had things to do

I have no qualifications. I left school early by mutual consent (OK, I was expelled - for calling a teacher a pompous c*** - he was a pompous c***, though ). But I don't consider myself uneducated. Not having bits of paper might limit you from getting certain jobs, but it certainly doesn't mean you can't learn plenty, albeit in an informal way.

Yep, and it said a lot about him that he was genuinely pleased that Liam had got the money.

There has always been social mobility for very able people from the bottom. In pre modern days a suprising number of peasants rose in the ranks through education. People like Thomas Cromwell and the Pastons became educated and enobled. In more modern times there was the Grammar school (Sue Lawley is an example of this. She went to Grammar school from a very WC background)

Admitedly is probably slightly eaiser now to be socially mobile(or maybe not with university fees???) But to rise in rank you always have to be very able and intelligent. Now this isn't possible for everyone because not everyone is that switched on or even academically capable and some can be emotionally damaged from hard uprbringings. However this does not mean they are bad people or undeserving.

Nice is nice and horrible is horrible regardless of education

I too have risen up the class scale considerably but I think I was lucky to have the ability and personality to do that. Not everyone has these advantages and I don't think that those who don't do it are bad in any way

Fortunately, I don't think they'd let me become as monk. At least I hope not

He plays the nice guy act to cover up his stupidity, but hasnt quite succeeded. As soon as you look at him and his gormless 40 year old looking face...you can immediately see he is not a bright guy. And the whole comedy stuff is just foolishness...its slapstick, theres nothing actually funny about him.

Its like ugly people who always have the greatest personalities, because obviously they have to work on it. Same goes for Brian...nothing there, so playing the geezer/joker card.

H edoes not have to do that as he is anice guy. This is backed by his 'nice' body landgauge. Because a person is not, as someone o n this post said, intellenctually sophisticated, and I amphasise the word sophisticated which in its original form mean hiding the real self a sophist. I think that Brian is the opposite of a sophist what you see is what you get. Most people nowadays can't understand that others are different from them and may see things inn a different way. He utilises phrases such as( it is obvious to me..........) then one is immediately aware that if he is able to string together phrases like that he is nto so stupid. Listen to Liam whoo I think is great and the phrases he utilises.

Brian is hilarious and he doesn't seem to have a vindictive bone in his body.

The house livened up as soon as he went in.

I want him to win.

I thought that too. His laugh isn't quite the same, but the spontaneous chuckling and his amiable nature definitely show shades of our Frank.
