Decided that we will get a phone to go with the BT home hub... I don't know whether or not to go for the BT home phone or a cheap one from Tesco etc.

Is the BT phone worth the money or is it just that price because it complements the hub?

Will a cheap digital phone do the job as well?

Ta

I plugged an old DECT base station into my router - I assume the same can be done with the BT 'Home Hub' thingy.

An ordinary DECT (digital cordless) phone will work and can be paired with the home hub.

I would like to add that the cordless phone won't be wanted next to the hub.

I can't have a phone that needs to sit in the bay by the hub to work.

I would just like to have a phone at the other end of the house, that can just charge from where it's located without the need for another phone line connection.

All the ones that I have seen seem to require you to keep the phone in the holder, which will have to be by the hub

Only for charging - the batteries will normally allow a DECT handset to be off charge for about 3 days.

Anyway, if you get another DECT handset and pod charger, it sounds like you could register it with the hub and then locate the pod charger anywhere you liked in the house.

Yes you can do as Heinz says. I had a DECT handset registered to the HUB and it was fine, you don't need a base station as the hub is one. I have a hub phone but they are expensive for what they are, although you can pick one up on ebay for a lot less.

Yeah. you can buy a new one for £30 on ebay.

Is it worth spending this much or just going for a £15 one?

How much will the call quality etc suffer?

One final point, I tried my main corded phone and connected it to the hub but I get quite a loud buzz in the background, the actual voice is fine but the constant buzz once I dial a number is really annoying, I'm not near anything that could cause intereference. Could it be that I need a main phone connected to the phone line as well?

thanks for your help

Or £7.99 for this one (online price).

Right...this is still my concern. In this pic, you can see that there is the phone line connection - I don't want this do I

I assume this is a base station as well, I just want the single stand-alone phone right?

Thanks for the link heinz, I think I know what I want now

As you already have the DECT base station (it's built into the BT Home Hub), you want what is normally just called an additional handset with a pod charger.

That link shows exactly that.
