Bit of a strange problem. I can't get a dial tone on my phone meaning i can't make calls. When i ring the phone with my mobile it rings and displays the caller id but you can't answer the call. Oh but at least the broadband works.

BT are being a pain they are going on about sending out an engineer. Which may incur a charge.

I have tried using the test socket, changed microfilters and a corded phone but still no dial tone.

Any ideas?

Unless your phone has gone faulty (do you have another so you can check by plugging into the 'hidden' socket inside the the bottom part of the master socket?), it sounds like a 'one way' line fault. You'll have to call 151 from another BT phone to report it.

you probably have a line fault, one leg disconnected. Broadband works down one wire while dial tone requires 2 wires to work. Get your line tested from BT faults 151.

If you have no dial tone at the test socket then there should not be a charge as the fault is on the rented wiring.
