I'm beyond chuffed about this news. JM is a fantastic actor, despite what some might say. I mean dislike the guy if you want, but to claim he's awful just makes you look a tad silly really.
James and John, John and James. Colour me very happy.
Woot, James Marsters here in Cardiff, I saw his band in Newport a few years back they weren't bad, the place was packed probably all buffy fans, while we were cuing up we saw him looking out of a window at us all, there were loads of people screaming was mad
He is quite a special actor I think. He really could have chemistry with a breeze block. And does anyone remember that scene when he's leaning on the cross in Buffy? "Can I rest now?" One of the most moving things I've ever seen.
Well as JM is sex on legs and the team behind Torchwood seem to be addressing the main problem with it last year by pushing it back to January and thereby giving it the chance to do that extra rewrite, get that effect right and just giving themselves time to get it right.
I liked season 1 Torchwood, but with extra time it could have been so much better.
I read an interview with Chris Chibnall that said his episode of LoM season 2 had been written and filmed before he wrote any of his 5 scripts for season 1 Torchwood.
So to go back to the original point of the thread, I'm a happy bunny about this news.
I'm quite intrigued as to what they are going to do with him?!! Hopefully they will give him something interesting to do. Maybe playing against type as a goodie?
Speaks volumes for how things have improved budget-wise on Dr Who.
Just hope this doesn't start a "Celebrity-of-the-month" type of mindset.
I'm not against guest stars, so long as they can act. It's good to have someone on board with a bit of charisma about them, which might help to make up for the lack of it amongst some of the main cast.

I'm not expert in Spike's history, but isn't he supposed to be a vampire from Ye Olde England, who has somehow made it to America, and having lived a long time in different locations over different time periods, his accent should be a bit wonky.

rather the opposite
if its true (link isnt working) that'll make any show 10 times better
I am SO looking forward to the next series of Torchwood now. JM is such a fabulous charismatic actor. I wonder if it's just a one off character? I hope there's going to be space in the story for him to come back either in TW or DW. I hope the character does him justice. Ooh ooh I cannot wait!!!
I don't think Spike necessarily dragged the show down. Just that his storyline, certainly by the last 2 seasons was shoehorned in and you got the feeling that he was only in scenes 'cos they'd paid him to turn up!
JM is a capable actor, as many actors are. I imagine it will be a one off episode, as he lives in the US and probably has other professional commitments.
I have to disagree with you there. His character became a main feature of the whole story arc in the last two seasons.
How can that be shoe-horning him in?? The reason why Spike became so predominant in Buffy is precisely because JM was absolutely brilliant in the role.
