Problems with Windows Vista Media Center
I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place. I'm a newbie on here so please be kind
I bought a Philips PC and Samsung TV package from PC World last week. I am having trouble setting up the IR 'blaster'. I am on cable (Virgin Media - used to be NTL in happier times) The STB is a Samsung SMT 2100c. When attempting to set up the remote Windows 'says' it recognises the STB remote (after pressing '0' 'enter' and 'channel up') but then doesn't change the channels through the IR blaster. Entering the codes doesn't work either (I have tried the 'Samsung' and 'NTL' codes). Trying to 'learn' the remote doesn't work at all (I start by pressing '1' as prompted but windows doesn't move to the next step even after pressing '!' dozens of times) Having spent well over a thousand pounds for a flat screen TV and a Philips PC I am a little disappointed. I went into PC World and asked the Techguys, but they said they hadn't heard of any problems. I am now at a loss to know what to do next. Obviously I could go back to PC World but I think that may be a longer route than this... Thanks in advance Bert |

I seem to recall that some cable boxes are incompatible with IR Blaster type products because they use an different IR system, I don't know if there's any way around that at all - you may also want to post in the Cable forum, someone there may have more specific advice...

Thanks for that mjk79
Yes I've looked into that, but the remote I have for the Samsung STB does use the standard codes. The ones that don't are the the Pace NTL/Telewest remotes. Bert |
